  • Mumps Plague Orthodox Jewish Community
    There have been over 1,500 mumps cases identified within the Orthodox Jewish community in New York and New Jersey. The contagion all started during the summer months at a boy’s camp within the Catskills. Camp participants were from Orthodox Jewish families and the quantity of mumps cases skyrocketed after they went back to their close-knit communities around New York City.
  • Challenges Facing Hispanic Immigrants and Citizens
    If Hispanics are U.S. born they are less likely to drop out of school and more likely to live in poverty than Hispanic immigrants. However, they must deal with elevated incidents of discrimination and violence. The Pew Hispanic Center showed that more Hispanics are getting an education and advancing in their jobs but are still facing social anxiety. The study found that 17 percent of 16-24 year olds dropped out.
