It was again at first of December that I volunteered at The Stew Pot to feed the homeless. It was a chilly winter day. I used to be back within the kitchen where it was warm and was watching the folks waiting patiently outside for their flip to come back in and get fed. I used to be amazed at how many didn't have their heads lined with a hood or hat.

My quest started that afternoon knitting hats for the homeless. By Christmas I had a dozen knitted and donated them. My aim for 2010 is to knit a minimal of a hundred hats and hopefully knit more.

On face book I discovered a pal that I have not seen since high school. We were not associates again then however she is now right here within the Dallas area and I decided to contact her. I am glad I did. At first I was hesitant as a result of considering back to those high school days we did not run in the identical circles. Did she need to see me? I figured what would the word scenario be? She would say no, but she didn't.

I came upon that she was staying here as a result of her daughter is going via cancer treatment. She is in Dallas by herself and has no assist group except for the social employee that the hospital has. I was thrilled to meet together with her and catch up the many years since highschool, and meet her daughter. She is a extremely candy kid. I believed to myself what could I convey for a 10 12 months old girl that may maintain her busy and never be placed on the shelf with the numerous other gadgets that she has to keep her busy.

I stopped at Joann's and picked up a pair of knitting needles and some yarn. I was going to show her methods to knit. I additionally introduced alongside a hat that I made for her figuring she is on chemo and has probably lost most of her hair. She has misplaced a few of it and it's nonetheless falling out. She cherished the hat. She took to knitting very quickly and fell in love with it. In at some point she knitted herself a scarf.

I told her what I was doing for the homeless and a light bulb went off in her head. She is going to knit hats for youths with cancer. I will probably be sharing my pattern with her when I see her this Monday. As I was sitting and watching TV I assumed I may give her a head start. With a few of my softer yarns I started to knit some hats for kids. I figured when she goes again into the hospital on Tuesday she can hand out some hats. For each hat that I knit for now on there will likely be one for the homeless and one for kids with cancer. I nonetheless get to do what I love which is knitting and may also help two different teams at the identical time.

I'm always looking for yarn donations. I want to help my new good friend get started. Who knows after I visit her in the hospital on Tuesday I may be able to teach another child to knit.
