It was back at first of December that I volunteered at The Stew Pot to feed the homeless. It was a cold winter day. I used to be again within the kitchen where it was heat and was watching the individuals waiting patiently outdoors for his or her turn to return in and get fed. I was amazed at what number of did not have their heads covered with a hood or hat.

My quest started that afternoon knitting hats for the homeless. By Christmas I had a dozen knitted and donated them. My purpose for 2010 is to knit a minimum of a hundred hats and hopefully knit more.

On face e-book I discovered a good friend that I have not seen since high school. We weren't friends again then however she is now here within the Dallas area and I decided to contact her. I'm glad I did. At first I used to be hesitant as a result of pondering again to those highschool days we didn't run in the identical circles. Did she need to see me? I figured what would the word state of affairs be? She would say no, but she didn't.

I found out that she was staying right here as a result of her daughter is going by cancer treatment. She is in Dallas by herself and has no help group apart from the social worker that the hospital has. I used to be thrilled to meet together with her and catch up the many years since high school, and meet her daughter. She is a very candy kid. I assumed to myself what could I bring for a 10 year previous girl that might maintain her busy and never be positioned on the shelf with the various different objects that she has to keep her busy.

I stopped at Joann's and picked up a pair of knitting needles and a few yarn. I was going to show her the right way to knit. I additionally brought along a hat that I made for her figuring she is on chemo and has most likely misplaced most of her hair. She has misplaced a few of it and it is nonetheless falling out. She liked the hat. She took to knitting very quickly and fell in love with it. In someday she knitted herself a scarf.

I told her what I was doing for the homeless and a lightweight bulb went off in her head. She is going to knit hats for kids with cancer. I will probably be sharing my pattern along with her once I see her this Monday. As I used to be sitting and watching TV I believed I may give her a head start. With some of my softer yarns I started to knit some hats for kids. I figured when she goes again into the hospital on Tuesday she will hand out some hats. For each hat that I knit for now on there will likely be one for the homeless and one for youths with cancer. I still get to do what I like which is knitting and can assist two totally different teams at the same time.

I'm at all times searching for yarn donations. I need to help my new friend get started. Who knows once I go to her within the hospital on Tuesday I may be able to teach another child to knit.
