It was back at first of December that I volunteered at The Stew Pot to feed the homeless. It was a cold winter day. I used to be back in the kitchen the place it was warm and was watching the individuals waiting patiently outdoors for his or her flip to come back in and get fed. I was amazed at what number of didn't have their heads covered with a hood or hat.

My quest started that afternoon knitting hats for the homeless. By Christmas I had a dozen knitted and donated them. My goal for 2010 is to knit a minimum of a hundred hats and hopefully knit more.

On face e book I found a pal that I've not seen since high school. We weren't buddies back then however she is now right here in the Dallas space and I made a decision to contact her. I'm glad I did. At first I used to be hesitant as a result of pondering again to these highschool days we didn't run in the identical circles. Did she want to see me? I figured what would the phrase scenario be? She would say no, but she didn't.

I came upon that she was staying here as a result of her daughter goes by means of cancer treatment. She is in Dallas by herself and has no support group apart from the social employee that the hospital has. I was thrilled to fulfill together with her and catch up the numerous years since high school, and meet her daughter. She is a extremely sweet kid. I assumed to myself what may I carry for a ten year old lady that might maintain her busy and not be positioned on the shelf with the various different items that she has to keep her busy.

I finished at Joann's and picked up a pair of knitting needles and some yarn. I used to be going to teach her the right way to knit. I additionally brought alongside a hat that I made for her figuring she is on chemo and has most likely misplaced most of her hair. She has lost some of it and it's nonetheless falling out. She loved the hat. She took to knitting in a short time and fell in love with it. In at some point she knitted herself a scarf.

I instructed her what I used to be doing for the homeless and a light bulb went off in her head. She is going to knit hats for kids with cancer. I shall be sharing my sample with her when I see her this Monday. As I was sitting and watching TV I thought I may give her a head start. With a few of my softer yarns I began to knit some hats for kids. I figured when she goes again into the hospital on Tuesday she will hand out some hats. For every hat that I knit for now on there will likely be one for the homeless and one for kids with cancer. I still get to do what I love which is knitting and might help two totally different teams on the identical time.

I am at all times looking for yarn donations. I wish to help my new good friend get started. Who knows once I visit her in the hospital on Tuesday I might be able to educate another little one to knit.
