Yes, Wars Are For Real but for how long?

I was recently forwarded an article entitled “This War is for Real” and was proclaimed to be from a MG (Major General) Vernon Chong, USAF retired however after checking the article title with Snopes, I found out this article did not originate with Dr Chong, however was written by someone else. Dr Chong only forwarded the article via email to another person and somehow his name was wrongly attributed as the creator of the article as it was passed along the Internet.

“This War is for Real” article talks about the justifications of the United States of America’s involvement in the war in Iraq. A copy of the actual article is located at: http://www.snopes.com/rumors/soapbox/chong.asp so I will let you go there for the complete text. Note the Snopes last reference to this article was over 3 years ago on 15 November 2005.

The email I received with this 2005 article is seemingly a rebuttal to my recent article, “World Peace Thru World Law”. However since the comment included in the email to me contained only this statement “you should read this article if you are going to talk about the USA’s war in Iraq”, I am only going to address the arguments given in this 2005 “This War is for Real” article in supporting USA involvement in the war in Iraq.

However before commenting on this “This War Is For Real” article, I would like to make my own statement about the USA, Great Britain, and the other nations involvement in the war in Iraq. And that is, while I agree that terrorism is a form of war (and wars are for ”keeps”) and both are acts that should be stopped, I cannot agree that using a vigilante posse (composed of the armies of the nations: USA, Great Britain, and the others) is the best way to end wars and stop terrorism! Yes, I know that this vigilante posse first appealed to the “Marshalls of the World”, i.e. the United Nations, to act against the growing number of terrorist events happening in the world, but I also know that the United Nations does not have the ability to act accordingly. And that is because the United Nations has a fundamental flaw and that is the veto power given to any of the major standing members of the UN Security Council. So rather than fix this flaw, the vigilante posse, headed by George W. Bush, decided to take the matters into their own hands. And since there are no actual worldwide laws against war and terrorism, it cannot be said that the acts of the vigilante posse are in any way legal, therefore the vigilante posse actions are of outlaws!

It is towards the humanistic goal of ending wars and stopping terrorism that I have proposed the creation of a United Free Nations Organization (UFNO.org). And for a nation (or representatives of the major religions of the world) to be allowed into the UFNO, they would have to first subscribe to the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)! The UFNO would then make the UDHR into worldwide laws (including laws against war and terrorism and as amendable from time to time by the UFNO Congress) which would then apply to all people of the Earth. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights for more information about the UDHR. Furthermore the armies of the member nations of the UFNO would be combined together into a UFNO police force. And it would be the responsibility of this UFNO police force, as directed by the UFNO security council (with no veto powers) to enforce these worldwide laws.
It is important to note three things about this UFNO proposal: 1) That the member nations of the UFNO would still be allowed to maintain their own national police forces: for the purpose of self defense and to enforce the laws within that nation only. And 2) The nations or groups of people or world religions who will not subscribe to the UDHR (as it becomes world law) will be considered outlaws. 3) Should the United Nations be able to change its charter to eliminate the veto power within its security council and to remove those nations who will not subscribe to the United Nations UDHR, than the creation of UFNO will not be necessary.

Finally, since it will only be via international political action that the UFNO can be created, a new worldwide political party, The World Peace Political Party (W3P) has been created! Now I am going to list the arguments given in this “This War Is For Real” article as questions (identify those with a “Q:”) followed by my response (that start with a “R:”).

Q: This WAR is for REAL
R: Yes wars are for real as well as terrorism and other forms of violence.

Q: To get out of a difficulty, one usually must go through it.
R: Ok, this seems to be the start of the argument for the involvement of the USA in Iraq. It also seems to indicate that the argument is “once started, you have to stay the course until completed”. It does not allow for any other option other than continue fighting wars until the “difficulty” or threats and acts of war are removed.

Q: “Our country is now facing the most serious threat to its existence, as we know it, that we have faced in your lifetime and mine (which includes WWII). The deadly seriousness is greatly compounded by the fact that there are very few of us who think we can possibly lose this war and even fewer who realize what losing really means.”
R: Ok, winning is good and losing is bad. Does everyone really think the USA can win the war in Iraq as stated? Is winning determined like a football game: People Killed: hundreds of thousands; USA Troops Killed: Thousands? Or is winning this war: One dictator toppled and one democratic government installed but for how long? And which dictator is next? Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Russia, China?

Q: First, let's examine a few basics: 1. When did the threat to us [the USA] start?
R: Follows are a list of the major terrorist attacks again the USA. When did terrorist attacks start? Thousands of years ago! Human beings have been killing each other for ever!

Q: 2. Why were we attacked? Envy of our position, our success, and our freedoms. The attacks happened during the administrations of Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton and Bush 2. We cannot fault either the Republicans or Democrats as there were no provocations by any of the presidents or their immediate predecessors, Presidents Ford or Carter.
R: I doubt that “envy of a freedom” is a reason. And what is the USA position? And success? Maybe the reason is to capture the wealth of the USA? Or more probably that the leaders of the terrorists gain power and prestige and are given wealth by their followers.

Q: 3. Who were the attackers? In each case, the attacks on the US were carried out by Muslims.
R: That should be some Muslims as not all Muslims are terrorists.

Q: 4. What is the Muslim population of the World? 25%.
R:This 2005 reference http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html lists Islam at 21%, Christians 33%, leaving 46% everything else.

Q: 5. Isn't the Muslim Religion peaceful? Hopefully, but that is really not material. [goes on to talk about Hitler being a Christian yet still killing christians] Same with the Muslim terrorists: They focus the world on the USA, but kill all in the way -- their own people or the Spanish, French or anyone else.
R: And how do you stop terrorists? By invading whole countries?

Q: 6. So who are we at war with? There is no way we can honestly respond that it is anyone other than the Muslim terrorists.
R: So how can this war with terrorists be resolved?

Q: So with that background, now to the two major questions: 1. Can we lose this war?
R: Better question is How can terrorism be stopped?

Q:2. What does losing really mean? If we are to win, we must clearly answer these two pivotal questions. What losing really means is: We would no longer be the premier country in the world. The attacks will not subside, but rather will steadily increase.
R: Why is having the USA the premier country in the world important? May be important to the people in the USA but how about to the people in the rest of the world?

Q: Remember, they want us dead, not just quiet. If they had just wanted us quiet, they would not have produced an increasing series of attacks against us, over the past 18 years. The plan was clearly, for terrorist to attack us, until we were neutered and submissive to them.
R: Invading countries is not the answer as terrorism is not a single country thing. And terrorism is not just a thing used by some Muslims, as terrorism is used by many people in many ways. The free nations of the world need to combine their efforts together under the proposed Untied Free Nations Organization (UFNO.org) and make worldwide laws against war and terrorism. And then the free nations need to combine their armies into one UFNO police force. And it is not just terrorism that is the only threat to the survival of the human race. There is always the threat of nuclear weapons being used by nations against nations or some people against other people. And the world problems of diseases, famine, hungry, and poverty needs to be addressed also. We need to rethink and redo the national boundaries that we make believe are drawn on the Earth. If you want world peace, then it can only happen once there are worldwide laws and a worldwide police force capable of enforcing those laws.

Q: [This article goes on against Muslim terrorists…] Remember, the Muslim terrorists stated goal is to kill all infidels! That translates into all non-Muslims -- not just in the United States, but throughout the world. We are the last bastion of defense.
R: No the USA is not the only defense. All the free nations of the world should get it together to end wars and to fight terrorism.

Q: There are those that find fault with our country, but it is obvious to anyone who truly thinks through this, that we must UNITE!
R: Spoken like a true USA warrior! However what I have said is not fault finding as the goal for humanity should be ending wars and terrorism not forming outlaw vigilante posses!! It is time to start thinking and acting outside the Nationalism Box! Join the World Peace Political Party today at www.W3P.info !!
