Developing vaginal yeast infections is not unusual. The genitals provide a warm, moist environment where the growth of fungal organisms and yeast flourishes. the majority of infections in the vagina are caused by candida albicans.

It is normal to have candida growth in the body and on the skin. Yeast infections occurs when your body's defense system is minimized and the growth cannot be stopped. This weakened immune system can be caused by illness and stress of all kinds. The chance of getting a vaginal yeast infection is increased if you take antibiotics or estrogen, if you are pregnant, or if you suffer from diabetes or an immunosuppressant disease. It is not considered a sexually transmitted disease, although it can be contagious if the other person does not have sufficient immunity.

Symptoms

The symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection usually include a burning pain and itching in the vulvar area, and a white or watery vaginal discharge. You may feel pain when you urinate and during sex.

Some conditions like allergies, bacterial vaginosis and even some STDs present similar symptoms so its important to get tested before you treat the problem on your own.

Preventing an illness, is by far better than curing one.

Keep the vulvar area clean, using unscented soap. Be sure to rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
After using the toilet always wipe from front to back to avoid introducing yeast to the area.

Don't use feminine hygiene products, as they upset the ratio of good and bad vaginal organisms, and may allow candida organisms to grow. These products include deodorant sprays and wipes, scented tampons and douches.

Avoid tight-fitting clothes which create a warm, moist genital area. Always wear underwear that has a cotton crotch to wick away dampness. Don't hang around in a wet bathing suit.

It is better to avoid antibiotics as much as you can. The growth of candida can be caused by the antibiotics, which can kill beneficial organisms too.
Eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Avoid sugar and alcohol.
Sometimes sleep is the best medicine, so be sure to get enough rest if you are feeling tired or worn out. Keep exercise moderate and stay off sugar and dairy products.

Do you want to actually cure the infection? Vaginal yeast infections can be treated to reduce or eliminate the symptoms. But it will not necessarily change the cause, the reason you're getting the infections.

Treatments that work by removing the symptoms include medical, herbal and other natural remedies.

There are a lot of medical cures that can be bought over-the-counter in most places. Others need a prescription. The most common are anti-fungal medicines. You can get them as suppositories, creams or tablets.

Natural medicines vary in their efficacy. Many of the common medications for yeast infections include suppositories. Among these are yogurt, vinegar, boric acid, garlic and various herbal remedies.

If you want to be rid of recurring vaginal yeast infections, you do need to change the environment in which the yeast thrive. In order to do it in the best possible way we should adopt an intelligent, holistic, natural approach.
