If you have a slim figure, then you need to look for bikinis that will shape your body, helping to make it look more feminine. Triangle bikinis and halter neck bikini shapes are great on small-chested slim figures as they flatter the shoulders and create more shape across the chest.

If you have a slender body, then you can add curves by accentuating your hips. Bikini shorts work well here, but if you have short legs then bikini shorts will make them look shorter still. Look for bikini bottoms that have detailing at the hip, such as tie bottoms with pretty bows or ribbon.

If you have a slender shape and prefer to wear a swimsuit rather than a bikini, then look for halter neck styles, deep V necklines, and styles that are ruched at the front - this will help to accentuate your chest. Opt for swimwear with a geometric print or belt and this will help to accentuate your waist, giving you the look of a curvier shape.

If you have a larger figure then bold and busy patterns, as well as fussy detailing at the hip and bust are your worst enemy when it comes to swimwear. Instead, stick to one colour, whether you are buying a bikini or a swimsuit, as these are far more flattering and help to disguise bellies and hips, creating a leaner shape overall.

If you want to lengthen the appearance of your legs, then look for bikini bottoms that tie at either side, or a high leg bikini or swimsuit. The higher up the leg is cut, the longer your legs will appear. Choosing a piece in a bold matte colour will also help.

One of the biggest swimwear trends this season is for cut-out swimwear. Be warned, this only looks good provided you are slim enough - loose skin bulging out of cut-out holes is not attractive. These are great for slimmer physiques as cut-outs, especially at either side of the waist, help to accentuate the hips, creating a curvier figure.

Many women are pear shaped, which means that your hips are wider than your shoulders. A bikini can come to the rescue here, as this kind of swimwear is great for tricking the eye and rebalancing your body proportions. You want to make your hips look smaller, so look for bottoms that are low-waisted to lengthen your body. You also want to accentuate your upper half, so look for balcony tops too.

If you have broad shoulders, the key is to use your bikini to rebalance your shape, making it appear more in proportion. By covering the right areas, while exposing and accentuating others you can work wonders with a bikini. Look for high-waisted bikini bottoms that will even out your hips and shoulders and avoid halternecks that can draw attention to the shoulder area too.
