If you are planning to let your body heal itself, you want to first make sure you know what ailment you have. You should consult a medical provider to make sure that you do not have a bacterial infection or something that requires medical intervention.

A yeast infection is caused by an overgrowth of Candida Albicans. Yeast is found naturally in your body at all times. The acidity level (pH) in our body keeps it in check. Sometimes our pH level drops and we are susceptible to an overgrowth of the fungus. Some commons things that lower your pH level are antibiotics, menstruation and stress. A yeast infection may go away without medication if you work to raise your pH level to a point where your body can fight off the multiplying fungus.

While you're waiting for you body to work miracles and get rid of the yeast infection, you should do something to treat the symptoms and relieve the discomfort. If you're reluctant to use vaginal creams to relieve the discomfort, you should consider some home remedies like vinegar. You don't insert the vinegar in your vagina and you don't even have to drink it. What you do is mix a cup of apple cider vinegar in a nice warm bath and soak for about 20 minutes. This will help relieve the symptoms and go a long way to helping your body get rid of your yeast infection on its own.

Tea tree oil is also a very good treatment for yeast infections. Tea tree oil is a natural antifungal. You can dip a tampon in tea tree oil and insert it in the vagina for about 20 minutes at a time. You can also rub some oil around the outside of the vagina where it's very irritated. You should feel immediate relief.

Many people eat plain, sugar-free, yogurt with active cultures on a regular basis to help keep the yeast in check. The bacteria/cultures in yogurt is good for keeping down the level of candida albicans. Yogurt can also be used like tea tree oil in immediately relieving the symptoms.

By following one or more of these suggestions, you can treat the symptoms of a yeast infection and give it time to go away on its own. Some believe that an untreated yeast infection can lead to more serious problems. If you have a yeast infection for more than a week, you should definitely go see your doctor. You may have something other than a yeast infection.

There are many things you can do to prevent a yeast infection from occuring in the first place. Yeast thrives in warm, moist environments. Make sure you stay dry. After swimming change into dry clothes immediately. When you shower, make sure you dry yourself completely.
