The story of the Tempurpedic mattress began at NASA. That's right...the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. In the late Sixties NASA researchers were working on a material that would reduce the effects of acceleration on space cadets.

NASA didn't make use of their discovery but they introduced the formula to the commercial market so private businesses could use it in their offerings. At that time the manufacturing process had not yet been developed and the material was complicated to create which restricted it's usefulness.

Even so, a group of Swedish scientists employed by Fagerdala World Foams saw the potential of the product for use in bedding. These scientists spent over a decade along with millions of dollars devising a new type of mattress.

The method of making a Tempurpedic mattress is a complicated one. It includes integrating several layers of visco foam with a number of other materials that are commonly used in bedding.

The largest difference with a Tempurpedic mattress is that they respond to fluctuations in both weight and heat level. This indicates it can be either soft or firm according to what you need. The material conforms to your unique body dimensions, which gives support in the right spots. These mattresses are especially helpful for people with back troubles, as study after study has confirmed.

A typical mattress doesn't evenly spread out your weight. That's why they start to sag under the locations where you normally lie on the bed. The constant pressure in that spot flattens the material and it stops providing proper support. Oftentimes, the worst spot is under the hips and lower back, which causes your spine to sit in an unnatural position.

Another advantage with a Tempurpedic mattress is that they're almost maintenance free. You don't need to rotate or flip the mattress. They'll not develop body impressions or start poking you with springs, which means they can last up to twice as long as a normal mattress. In fact, the company offers a 20-year limited warranty.

It's necessary to remember however, that a Tempurpedic mattress isn't for everybody. They're considerably different from a coiled spring mattress and may take some getting used to. While the majority of people report coming to enjoy them after a short period, some never can. Common complaints include the mattress being too firm, having an unappealing chemical odor, or retaining too much heat and causing the user to wake up drenched with sweat.

A careful look at Tempurpedic mattress reviews shows these problems are fairly rare so you shouldn't worry too much about them. When you're having trouble sleeping, or are waking up in the morning with aches and pains brought on by your current mattress, then it's really worth trying one out to see if it can aid you.
