Playing golf can be pretty pricey. No no dispute there. No matter what though just about all golfers upgrade their equipment pretty much anytime the big OEM's come out with a new model. We're all following the technologies and understandably so.

Modern golf clubs are easier to hit than clubs from even as recently as a few years in the past. New shapes and materials make golf that little bit easier gratifying for the bulk of golfers. It's a more forgiving world with modern equipment.

Shaft design has as much to do with the improvements the way clubs play as just about anything else. Advanced manufacturing processes and new composite materials have resulted in golf shafts which can be precisely fitted for our own individual style of play. A golf club is driven by the shaft. Fit the wrong shaft and the club won't perform to its full potential. Pure and simple.

Shafts and club heads today are designed to be launched high for the most carry possible. No more low drives for the extra roll. The modern long drive is a combination of launch and carry. This also makes for a more accurate drive with less roll to worry about.

Larger club heads, right on the limits set by the R&A and USGA for dimensions and Coefficient of Restitution mean we all have an improved chance of hitting longer drives. The maxed out volume also makes our modern drivers far more forgiving on bad swings. The increased volume means the MOI is better. Increased Moment of Inertia means less twisting on bad shots. That reduced twisting means better drives with less accuracy and distance lost.

Golf clubs however are getting expensive. With the new latest and greatest models running to hundreds of dollars, buying new clubs is a major investment, with the newest Titanium drivers coming in at well over $400.

There are other options available however. Golf clubs that use the same high quality materials and shafts as the major golf companies. These golf clubs are usually referred to as clone golf clubs or component clubs.

Although there are some clone golf clubs which are simply knock-offs of big OEM's that try to cheat customers by using similarly sounding names and identical color schemes (think Bing for Ping for example), you can find top quality clone golf clubs in this category, clubs that are designed around their own features and playing characteristics.

Any quality golf club has some pretty standard features. Things like:

* Increased MOI
* Cavity Backs
* Offsets
* Optimal weighting patterns
* High Coefficient of Restitution

These are design features you would expect to find on the finest clone golf clubs. Clubs priced at less than a third of the price of the big OEM's. As an extra bonus, these clones can be custom built to your exact requirements. High quality materials, top quality components and a price tag that's right.

Your playing partners won't know what hit them.
