Paint comes in many types with even more uses. By shopping around you can save a lot of money.

Some types of house paint are indoor, outdoor, flat, latex, enamel, semi-gloss, and glossy. You will want to ask for help if you don't know what type paint will be best for the project you are working on. For example, if you are working on an outside project, such as a birdhouse, you will need a weather resistant paint.

Paint can be mixed to match any color you want. They have color charts where you can choose a color, or you can pick any color you like, such as the color of your eyes, or grass green. If you are looking to save some money, you can get large discounts on paint that was mixed for someone else and came out the wrong color. Of course, the colors in this section may be very limited, and if you are working on a large project, you may have to have more mixed at the regular price.

Painting supplies can be bought at the same store you buy your paint at. There are brushes, rollers, sprayers, and even specialized brushes for painting corners and so forth. You may also need tarps, masking tape and other supplies, such as a pan to put the paint in. Brushes and rollers tend to work better indoors, where sprayers usually work better outdoors.

For furniture, decks, or a project where you want a wood finish, varnish may be the way to go. Varnish lets the natural wood show through and can be bought in many hues such as cherry and oak. It also comes in indoor and outdoor varieties. It is applied like regular paint.

For painting metal, such as a swing set, spray paint does very well. It also comes in indoor and outdoor. You can buy spray paint for as little as one dollar a can, but you may have to buy a lot of cans if you are painting a large area. It only comes in set colors, so you may have to compromise on the color.

For very small projects you may want to go with paint for arts and crafts especially if it will be kept indoors. Most of this paint is either oil or water based and may run if it gets wet. This comes in set, premixed colors as well.

If you need a color other than what is offer you may need a pallet to mix it on. Getting the exact color you want can be difficult if you have never done this before. Be prepared to spend a lot of time trying or compromise on color. The brushes for these are also very different. They have brushes better for thinner and broader strokes.

You can add color to just about anything with a little paint. Weather it is painting your house or an old vase, there are many options available to you. If you need help ask someone at a supply store, they usually know exactly what you will need.
