I am a Governor at Whitecotes Primary School and I think this is truly excellent school! Both of my children go there. Happy and successful kids! I truthfully can not think of a better more balanced start for children. There are just too many Wonderful things to remark on, not least the FREE outdoor pursuits for all year 5 students - mine go canoeing, hill walking, abseiling, stream scrambling, caving etc. My children are also learning an instrument for free! The best for me is that there is a SUPER STUDENT scheme in place. Bronze, silver and gold badges can be achieved and each step earns them more privileges. The weekly SILVER student disco at lunchtime is a hit. GOLD students have the freedom of the school at all times and even their own common room with a Wii and an electronic drum kit! Wish I could roll back the years and go there myself!

At Whitecotes Primary School in Chesterfield in Chesterfield we believe passionately
in Happy and Successful kids! We pride ourselves in offering a positive atmosphere where a young and energetic staff encourage kids to develop to their potential and to gain in self confidence, independence and self esteem.
We help the kids to widen their horizons and explore and ascertain their hidden talents by taking them on short or extended school trips. As well as the usual weeks educational visits to different parts of the country we go on a weeks Outdoor Pursuits where children go caving, canoeing, climbing, abseiling. and learn to look after themselves and each other in exciting and challenging circumstances

Whilst many kids with special needs have a statement from the LEA, many do not.

We keep a careful eye on every child in school and observe their expected progress and their actual progress and staff are encouraged to discuss any child they are concerned about with our in-school SeNCo (Special Needs Co-ordinator).

We also try to allocate extra resources to kids who need an “extra push” in some areas.

“The kids really enjoy coming to school and are happy and polite” and show very good attitudes to learning". We have been praised highly for the "very good attitudes and relationships" that the kids have with each other and staff.

There is a large 3 metre wide mosaic was designed and created by the children themselves. Every group of pupils from Reception to Year 6 was involved. The completed mosaic is proudly displayed at the entrance to school. Well done everybody!

Do you want your child to speak a foreign language?

Whitecotes children study a foreign language and can improve their language skills in an After School Club. We offer Spanish and French classes as well as having a story writing club and a school newspaper run by the kids.

Is Your Child Artistic?
kids's progress is "well above expectations" by the time they leave school and we were praised for the "very good quality teaching". After school we offer jewellery making, drawing and sketching and art classes

Is Your Child Sporty?
We offer rugby, football, table tennis, hockey, netball, tennis coaching and cricket clubs. We are very competitive - we have won 3 football tournaments in the last 2 years represented Chesterfield at rugby at the Derbyshire games and won the Chesterfield Schools swimming competition.
