Potential home purchasers will time and again just like to drive-by and look at the outside of a property for the reason that, they merely want a speedy, private “no-obligations” look. They want to save themselves the time, bother and probable awkwardness of inspecting a dwelling they don’t mean to purchase.

Thus, first impressions do matter! A dwelling with inferior “street appeal” can be "struck-off” a buyer’s shopping list, without them stepping a foot in the door. A possible deal can be gone in a matter of seconds.

However, a residence that's visually pleasing and in first-rate condition will appeal to prospective buyers driving down the road. Convincing “road appeal” will tempt those prospective buyers to have a look inside the property.

That means, before you put your home on the market do this. Stand back and look at your residence as neutrally as you can. Would you buy this house? Ask acquaintances and neighbors to do the exact same. Be adamant they be totally truthful. Good or bad - you must know the truth.

The first step in preparing the exterior of your house is to take a long look at your dwelling from the street. Stand at the road side and gaze at the home in the same way a purchaser could. Envisage that you are viewing your residence for the very first time. What sticks out? What catches your eye?

Honestly now - is it the fine-looking landscaping and the modern roof or fancy letterbox? Or does something else draw your attention?

Possibly your eye is drawn by the peeling exterior paint work? Maybe it is those potholes in the drive-way that you see first? Could it be the tarnished guttering, or that boarded up window?

Here are some points to consider:

1. Is the grass and shrubs well maintained?
2. Does the garden or paving want weeding?
3. Does the driveway want resurfacing?
4. Are lawn mowers and hoses correctly stored?
5. Is garbage and waste stored out of sight?
6. Are there cracks in the foundation or pathing?
7. Are guttering, the chimney and exterior walls in decent order?
8. Do the windowpane casings, shutters, or doors require painting?
9. Does the fence or letter box want fixing or painting?
10. Do the windows want cleaning on both sides?
11. Is the garage door uncluttered and closed securely?

Remember, this is how your dwelling will "introduce" itself to a probable purchaser. If the “street appeal” is not there, you could lose your buyer without him or her even getting out of the vehicle.

They will probably move on to the next house, no matter how perfect the inside of your residence may be.

This all could seem logical, but it is a lesson that unfortunately many vendors find out the tough way. The vendors either cannot persuade somebody to buy their dwelling, or they fail to obtain the price the home is capable of getting.

Do what is needed to make your residence stand out from the opposition. Make sure that your house is fresher, cleaner, and well looked after. And, don't forget - make sure it has heaps of street appeal.
