A pinched nerve sciatica can also be referred to as a slipped disc, prolapsed disc, bulging disc, ruptured disc, or even degenerative disc disease. They're all essentially the same thing; it just depends on who you're talking to. The most generally used words are herniated disc or bulging disc.

Technically, a pinched nerve does not have to be coupled with a disc - a muscle or other structures can pinch a nerve just as well. Common examples of this are Piriformis Syndrome and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

The symptoms of a pinched sciatic nerve may include some or all of these symptoms:
1) Pain - most often in the leg and buttock, sometimes in the foot, not always in the lower back.
2) Tainted feeling such as pins and needles and numbness in the leg or foot.
3) A feeling of weakness in the leg or foot

A pinched sciatic nerve generally refers to a firmness at the nerve root - where it protrudes from the spine. At that point, the space allotted for the nerve to emerge from the spine can be crowded by several different causes, causing a pinching of the nerve at that point. A pinched sciatic nerve can cause tremendous pain throughout the back of the leg. Despite of the cause, there are home remedies that can help relieve sciatic pain from a pinched nerve

Buttocks Stretch

A buttocks stretch can relieve sciatic pain that could be caused from a injured back. You will need a pillow, a belt or similar device and clear floor space. Lay on your back with a pillow behind your head and your knees in the air. Your upper leg should be straight up while your lower leg should be parallel to the floor. Your lower back should be flat on the floor as well. Take the belt, grip the ends with both hands, and loop it behind mid-thigh. Put your hands by your sides and then relax your legs to where they are putting pressure on the belt but not dropping to the floor. Take deep breaths, concentrating your exhale through your buttock muscles. Hold this position for at least a minute

Deep Tissue Massage

A deep tissue massage may also prove to help relieve sciatic pain. Sometimes deep tissue massage is part of physical therapy. The massage may be determined on the affected buttock area closer to the lower back. That is the position of the piriformis muscle that may be causing pressure on the sciatic nerve. It lies deep inside the buttock, so heavy massaging or heat may also be involved. The rest of the leg muscles, such as the hamstrings, may also be massaged to relieve any additional tension on the sciatic nerve.
