You can use an ice pack when needed for 10 minutes at a time to the rectal area.

There are plenty of over the counter treatments which will help to stop the pain, burning and itching that is associated with hemorrhoids. There are creams as well as medicated pads to help give instant relief that you can use at home or anytime at your leisure. Mild pain relievers such as aspirin or ibuprofen can help with swelling and pain and these can be purchases over the counter.

Ways to Cope

Having a bowel movement can be very painful when suffering with hemorrhoids so it is important to use soft toilet paper so you do not irritate the area even more. Some people like to use the pre-moistened wipes as they are cool and comforting to the rectal area. Try to stay away from the perfumes wipes as they can cause more burning and irritation when they make skin contact. Try not to run the area too much so that you do not make matters worse. Dab with toilet tissue when necessary and dry the area completely when done cleansing the area.
