In this day and age a proper education is what you need to get ahead in life. This is all well and good, but getting quality education costs money, a lot of it. One of your options is to apply for a grant for the school year in 2010.

There are two main types of grants:

- Awarded based on Financial Needs
- Awarded Based upon Scholar Achievement
- There are others based on religion, ethnicity or other very specific criteria.

The federal government awards several grants for students that can not afford their college tuition. The most recognized federal program is the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant program.

The ultimate goal of the federal program is to provide assistance to low income students who are looking for an opportunity to go to college in one of the four thousand participating educational institutions. You can visit the some .gov sites and learn more on the qualifications you have to meet in order to qualify for federal assistance.

Financial aid to pay for school can also be received via the state government. A fair example would be Texas. As one of the most populated state in the country there are plenty of opportunities for young men and women to get financial aid to get a higher education. And you don't need to have a great trowing arm or an perfect GPA to get them. Most of the time all you need is to look in the right places. For example, large city governments help the dependents of firemen, policemen and paramedics. If you are disabled or have been under foster care you may be eligible to get assistance to go to college.

There are several well known private institutions that also provide financial assistance to educational organizations, but most of them are aimed at very specific resources. A well known contributor to medical and arts students is the Charles A. Dana Foundation. They have given millions of dollars to fund the education of medical professionals and artists in New York, Los Angeles and Washington D.C.

The best way to get assistance to get qualified for a grant for school in 2010, is to ask the person who is in charge of your college application in the school of your choosing. They usually are very involved in the decision making process, and have great influence on who gets what and how much.
