Direct Sales actually hales from the early 1900s in the form of door-to-door sales. The characteristic in common being that it is less difficult to sell to people face to face. Since then, millions have given a good old college try at running their own direct sales home based business. Today, multi level marketing is a multi-billion dollar a year industry; One that is set to explode over the next five to ten years.

Not everyone achieves home based business success in network marketing. When you take a look at the progression of the multi level marketing distributor, there are basically three phases that everyone goes through, without exception. If someone ventures into a multi level marketing company, they are guaranteed to evolve through these phases.

What are the three phases of network marketing?

The initial romantic phase comes first. This is where the distributor falls in love with the value in the products or services and is enticed by the perceived potential income. In this phase confidence and excitement explode.

The dual phase happens following the romantic phase, when the network marketing independent distributor reaches a major realization. Multi Level Marketing is a legitimate home based business which actually needs a lot of hard work to reach the levels of success touted by the direct sales industry leaders. Similar to brick and mortar business entrepreneurs, home based business owners have to put a little sweat into their business to make it work.

Direct Sales marketers in the work phase develop into one of two things. One group of distributors will develop to the bailout phase where they will leave the industry. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of network marketing attempts will end in this phase.

The balance of independent distributors will make it to the money making phase or the massive actions phase. This is where the hard work pays off. It first begins when the amount of money made begins to overtake the financial investments made to date. Those who really and truly know how to put massive action in place are the industry leaders of network marketing or the elite.

What do the folks who make it to the money phase know that those stuck in the romantic phase don't?

For starters, To start, I can almost guarantee that the top earners who are making money spend much more time asking questions and listening than talking. They are laser focused on what their customer is looking for or needs and they deliver on it. The successful network marketers are able to leverage the work of others.

A successful attitude is pretty much a given amongst the direct sales top earners. There is no room in their life for the word "try". They are tenacious in their quest for success in their business. Expect the savvy direct sales distributor to be, do and have all the success they set out to achieve.

network marketing has certainly come a long way from door-to-door sales in the early 1900s but one thing will always remain the same. Nothing is more powerful than the personal touch when it comes to sales.
