In general we talk about living foods and how they may help achieve weight loss. However, there are actually women and men in an opposing boat. These people want to gain pounds however they would prefer to eat raw foods and put on healthy weight.
Here is a true account about my once skinny brother and how he was able to gain pounds eating primarily green smoothies. My brother is a 34 year old, primarily raw food vegan. He primarily consumes green smoothies out of perhaps laziness, and of course for all of the reported health advantages that can be achieved.
Upon drinking 75+% green smoothies for a couple of months he felt inspired to get back to weight lifting with the goal to maybe gain muscle pounds. He did some weight lifting before to try and put on muscle and boost his self esteem. This time he wanted to things much more seriously, so he advance paid for a year membership with the hope to stay committed, plus he hired a personal trainer.
After several weeks of the fitness instructor bugging him about his diet and suggesting that he consume fatty animal protein and sugary snacks that take a long time to digest, in order to get the desired weight, he fired his personal trainer and continued to exercise on his own, and started looking for a diet plan, to achieve weight gain, that he was content with.
He then learned about figs, a calorie rich fruit that tastes great in green smoothies, and for some raw foodists, considered the superior choice for all calorie rich foods. He submerged a pack of figs in water in the refrigerator each evening (easier to digest after being soaked) and during the day included several to every smoothie, and finally poured the soak water in the last green smoothie of the day. He was relentless and began to gain some weight! Although he was happy with the increased weight, he wanted to put on more weight, but by adding other food than simply soaked figs.
He then checked out some healthier fattier fish (keep in mind, he is not 100% a raw vegan, just mostly) and settled with anchovies and sardines. He actually likes the flavor of both fish so he started eating a few cans each week, just eating the fish right from the can.
He then started adding raw nut butters, like raw peanut butter or/and raw macadamia butter, to the green smoothies. He started noticing even more pounds being put on from this additional dosage of calories. In order to get additional protein into his diet, he mixed in either hemp hearts or bee pollen to the green smoothies.
For an extra nutrient boost, not for gaining pounds but for powerful minerals he often added a few pieces of dulse seaweed to the green smoothies.
And there we have it. A few extra additions to smoothies and perhaps even some fatty fish added in the diet, he managed to put on pounds in a exponentially healthier way than going through the White Castle drive thru. Hopefully this process could work for you too if healthy weight gain is something you want.
