Michael was diagnosed with overactive bladder or weak bladder when he was 14. Today he's 21 and he calls for the second time to discuss his weak bladder and what kind of home bladder treatment might work for him. I had him do a bladder diet experiment for overactive bladder over the past week and his results may be of interest to you.

Michael says he's had problems with a weak bladder all his life. He cuts down on how much fluid he drinks in a day to try to prevent embarrassment with overactive bladder accidents. He thinks like a lot of other people with overactive bladder, supposing that if he decreases his fluid intake he'll decrease the chance for overactive bladder accidents.

He also tries to make it to the bathroom as soon as he feels an urge to urinate. The thinking is to do this so he can get there before he has an accident.
To start a bladder training program last week Michael kept some bladder records: how often he went to the bathroom, how many ounces, how many accidents. The first three days he maintained his regular diet. The next three days he eliminated caffeine, alcohol, acidic foods and hot, spicy foods.

He had been told by a pyhsician that in addition to having overactive bladder he had a physiologically small bladder with neurological development issues. Hmmm. When he ate his normal diet, he would urinate about 8 ounces at a time, he went to the bathroom about 8 times a day and he had accidents every night and sometimes during the day.

However, when he went on a diet for weak bladder or overactive bladder, he urinated 13 ounces (totally normal), went to the bathroom 4-5 times a day and only had 1 accident on 1 night. We talked about how some foods and beverages irritate an overactive bladder. He'll stay on the bladder diet while we work on bladder training at home over the next few weeks.

If you have a weak bladder, you can do this for yourself to determine if foods and beverages are making your weak bladder worse. A simple home bladder treatment for weak bladder is to do a bladder training program and eliminating these irritating substances will make the bladder training process a lot easier.
This week Michael's going to work on keeping up his water intake and learning to calm down the urge to urinate. He'll calm down the urge when it comes rather than running to the bathroom.

After living with overactive bladder his whole life, he's already making great progress in only one week.

Home bladder training works for many people and the bladder diet completely cures overactive bladder for some. Try eliminating bladder irritants from your diet and keep some bladder records! See what happens;-)
