Sometimes, doing things having the best of intentions can backfire on you. We decided it would be a great idea for our family to start fostering animals. We agreed that it would be far better for the pets to have free roam of our property and household than to stay in a small crate. Little did we know these fantastic animals could carry some thing frightening in to our household: fleas.

With some dogs, fleas don't hassle them. As a matter of fact, the last time my dog and I stopped by our veterinarian, We had a lengthy conversation regarding fleas. The veterinarian mentioned he has observed canines come in to his clinic and there were so many fleas on them that they would basically jump off the canine on to your arms and hands. At the same time, the dog demonstrated absolutely no signs of a flea hypersensitivity. There seemed to be no inflammation or itching. The fleas and other insects were simply living on a host and the canine didn't seem to care.

Our canines have been receiving assorted flea medicines through the years. Everyone put into practice our veterinarian's tips and bought what ever they recommended at the time. Often it felt like we paid a very high price at the veterinarian's office, but I thought of it as we were purchasing his / her advice. My belief was that the treatments at his office were of higher quality as compared to what you could get on the internet or in a shop.

Given that I've had an opportunity to try out a few different flea medicines, in my opinion I'd been wrong. The best flea medicine for us in our hot, humid environment in which fleas flourish, wasn't a medicine that you could only acquire in a veterinarian's office. This treatment has been available online for cheaper than what I had been forking over to our vet.

The actual medicine we selected, following significant amounts of researching, was Advantix. As per the company's site, generic K9 Advantix halts fleas from biting in under ten minutes. Within an hour or so, it starts eliminating fleas. Within 12 hours, most if not all of the grownup fleas will be dead. After trying this medicine on dogs that are extremely allergic to fleas, I believe it. Sad to say, it is not available for kittens and cats. One of the active ingredients in generic Advantix is very deadly to cats and kittens and must for no reason be given to them.
