A few dedicated developers, such as Namco and Sega, continue to keep the arcade scene chugging alone, but the arcade is little more than a shadow of what it was during its glory year, and its unlikely that it will ever return to its former seat at the forefront of gaming revolution.

The market however for collectors is boyant, with keen retro gamers spending upwards of one thousand pounds on machines in great condition. Unfortunately, many machines are in a poor state, as years of neglect have reduced them to a state of near disrepair. However dedicated machine makers have made a range of arcade machines for sale or for personal use, repairing original machines or building new ones to house the classic games.

Nowadays with emulation software, mounted personal computers within arcade machines can recreate the experience effectively to all but the most dedicated collectors, without the need to maintain printed circuit boards in pristine condition nor worry when things go wrong.
