One of the types of fitness exercise routines that people find easiest to stick to is a walking routine. All it requires is that you have a comfortable and supportive pair of walking shoes and that you take a little time out of your routine. It can be done all year round, either indoors or out, and everyone knows how to walk, so it doesn't require a long learning curve to get up to speed. However, you want to choose walking workouts that will appeal to you and keep you regularly working out.

You want to start out your walking fitness exercise routine gradually. Start out with shorter times and distances, and then work up to longer workouts where you cover more distance. This way you are less likely to burn out, and you won't push yourself too hard and risk soreness and injury, which would likely lead you to put a stop, at least temporarily, to your exercising.

It is important to schedule your workouts so that you are more likely to stick to them. Set aside the days and times that you plan to do your fitness exercise walks, and try to stick to them. You don't need to be fanatical about it and miss other important events due to the schedule you have set since you can always change the time or break up the routine into smaller parts so that you can still squeeze it in even when special events come up in your life.

Once you have set up a schedule for your workouts, you should set goals. These can come in many forms, such as the amount of weight that you lose, or the amount of time that you walk, or the distance that you walk. As you reach one goal, set a newer, more difficult goal to help keep you motivated and improve your fitness level. If you have a limited amount of time, try to increase your speed so that you walk further in that same amount of time. Your workout doesn't need to be overly long in order to get the benefits you want.

Your fitness exercise routine could get a bit boring if you always walk the same way along the same route, so it would be a good idea to add some variety. Have a few different walking workouts that you can complete. Maybe some days you go along a hilly route and walk a bit slower, and others you speed along on a flat walking route. You might want to try adding intervals of slower walking and faster walking. Whatever it takes to keep it interesting and keep your body challenged. You can look online for a wide variety of different walking routines that you can consider.

Over time you will find that your workouts have resulted in your having better cardio fitness, as well as a more toned and fit body with less extra weight. You will have more energy as well. Hopefully these results will help keep you walking for your health.
