Ahh... Who does not love to wake up to the smell of fresh coffee brewing in the morning? Perhaps you may find a few odd ducks, but I am not one of them. Even before I was old enough to drink coffee, I loved the smell in the morning. Okay, I still have to have creamer and sugar in my coffee, but its coffee all the same. One of my favorite things is to wake up to that fresh smell produced only by coffee makers.

My dad would get up before the rest of us and start the pot to brew. He would then make the rounds to wake everyone up for school. Every morning we woke up to the smell of fresh coffee.

About four months ago, something happened, and I no longer get to wake up to that smell.

No, it is not that something happened to my dad, it is that I moved away to start college. Oh, I still have my coffee every morning, it is just that I have to get up and start the coffee maker myself. I no longer get to wake up to that wonderful smell.

I am in the middle of finals for my first term of college and I will be heading home for the break. I am so excited that I am going to get to wake up to that fabulous smell once again, but I have to admit that I have another reason that I am so glad to be going home.

I already know what my Christmas present is going to be. I have requested an automatic coffee maker. You know, the kind that you add everything the night before, set the timer and it starts to brew the coffee before you ever wake up. Sure, it is not going to be as nice as getting to see my parents every morning, but I still get to wake up to that great smell.

I have also asked for some of the same coffee beans that dad uses to make coffee at home and a grinder. That way, I will be able to grind my coffee fresh every evening before going to bed and put everything in the coffee maker so that I can wake up to a perfect cup of coffee.

Before I leave the apartment, I plan to clean off a special place on my counters so that as soon as I return for the next term I can set up that beautiful machine. I had to sign up for an eight o'clock class for next term, so the coffee maker is going to come in very handy. You see, it is easy to keep pushing the snooze button on my alarm clock.

I know, because I have missed my 10:00 algebra class several times this term, by pushing the snooze one time too many. I also know by experience, that my love for coffee will get me up in plenty of time for that 8:00 chemistry class. That does not mean that I will make it every day, but I will be up in time thanks to mom and dad for that fabulous gift of a coffee maker.
