Most computers have a life span of five years. At the five year mark, they become outdated. Technology is such that computers evolve at an incredible rate. Some people update and buy a new computer before five years. There are two main reasons--how worn out their current computer is, or because of the low cost for the newer one.

Lack of care and maintenance can contribute to your computers condition. How might you optimize your computing system? You should make sure you take care of it. Maintenance and cleanliness tips are enclosed.

You can prevent dust, lint, carpet, hair, and smoke particles from building up on your computer hardware by cleaning and vacuuming often. Do not allow it to be placed in places where light cannot reach, as dust will gather. Your computer can get overheated or experience permanent hardware failure if dust has built up on it.

There are many cleaning tools for when you clean your computer. Avoid using the vacuum cleaner inside the computer case or CPU. There are many things that can damage the stuff inside it. Artist brushes can as well be used in getting rid of dirt in unreachable areas for instance computer keyboards.

Smoke will ruin the internal parts of your computer. Your computer should not be exposed to the smoke from cigarettes or fireplaces. Covering the computer while running may cause it to overheat.

Dirt and dust inside the CPU case accumulates quickly, so be sure to use compressed gas to remove it. You won't want to use this on devices such as DVD drives. Since human breath is moist avoid blowing into your computer.

If you want to clean LCD screens, do it with dry soft cotton. Smudges on the screen could be eliminated in this way. If it doesn't work, try mixing 50% isopropyl alcohol with 50% water. Only use this to clean the screen not other parts of the computer.

Make sure your computer's keyboard is disconnected before you clean it. To find anything that might be stuck behind where the keys are, you can hold it upside down. Compressed air can as well be used in getting rid of stuff stuck on the keyboard. It is also a good idea to use antibacterial or disinfecting wipes.

The dirt accumulated in the mouse and the ball contained in it shall be the cause for erratic movements of mouse. So that you can clean it fully, disconnect it from the computer and release the ball.

When cleaning your computer, it is important to be cautious, as there is a chance that you can cause damage to some components. Computers are vulnerable during cleaning; protect them from water damage by keeping the area dry and from static discharge by wearing anti-static bracelets.

When wanting to see if your computer is clean instead of checking it yourself you can bring it in. If you keep up with your computer maintenance it will last longer.
