There are varying opinions as to the beginning of Valentine's Day. Some experts status that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the identical date that had been devoted to love lotteries. Myth also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had turn out to be his buddy, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Further aspects of the anecdote say that Saint Valentine served as a minister at the temple during the reign of Monarch Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine.

Slowly, February 14 became the day for exchanging love letters and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers. The day was marked by sending poems and simple gifts such as flora. There was regularly a social gathering or a ball.

In the United States, Miss Esther Howland is given recognition for sending the first valentine cards. Profitable valentines were introduced in the 1800's and now the day is very commercialised. The municipality of Loveland, Colorado, does a great post office business about February 14. The spirit of good continues as valentines are sent out with over-romantic verses and children swap valentine cards at school.
Regardless, I always have one thing to share with my friends, that is, though Valentine's Day is about love and a reminder to celebrate with their lover, it isn't the only time to express their love and positive feelings for their husbands.

Rather, each day is a chance to share presence with their beloved, show their emotions and renew the bond of love they share together. I don't encourage splurging on your lover, it's much better to spend within your means. With that in mind, here are some concepts for boyfriend gift on Valentine's Day :

Try and imagine the smile on his face whenever he uses the pen, isn't it sweet having you usually on his mind?

Another creative and unique idea to touch your husbands heart is to personalize a special scrapbook with you and his footage from the day you first met and things you have done together in your regular lives. You can add some thought and feelings in the scrapbook. The scrapbook is symbolic of your love and memories that you both shared together. Isnt it meaningful?
