Use the Rule of 5 To Put You on Track!

There are times when we all get stuck and need a good swift kick in the you know where, but does that really work? Of course not! What you need is a principle to fall back on and that is “The Rule of 5”!

If you had to cut down a large tree and all you had was an axe if you took 5 swings at that tree every day eventually the tree would fall. The same principle works in our everyday life. If you knew your goal and attacked that goal with 5 tactics every day you would eventually accomplish what you desired! It really is that simple!

Our goal at SMART U is to eventually make the speaking circuit and the way we see ourselves accomplishing that is to provide weekly coaching calls to as many people as we can, publish an article per day, meet 5 new sales people per day and have them attend our coaching calls, attend one networking even per day, make 5 calls per day to those who attended our coaching calls and create one new video a day to play on our Facebook and You Tube pages. That’s the rule of 5. Do I know exactly when all of this will hit? No! But, I have confidence that as long as we stay true to this principle we can bring the tree down!

Decide first what your goal is. These are the big long range pictures and then decide what are the 5 most important tactics to do every day! I can almost guarantee that those tactics will have something to do with interacting with others in your community and here is the rub. As I speak to those who have attended our weekly coaching calls and get to know them more intimately they share with me their real concerns and what is holding them back. This force that keeps them stuck is typically a lack of clarity of purpose, and thus they have little confidence to interact with those within their community. Some of those I speak to will say that they're not sure what to say to others when they meet them. When we drive deeper on this statement I find that what they are saying is they dread the question, “so what do you do?” Sure, they know what they do for a living, but most people don’t know how to communicate it in such a way that makes it unique to other person’s ears and causes them pride when they say it. Why? Most people have never asked themselves the question; what is my true purpose in life?

This question about purpose is a whole new article unto its self, but it should be stated that if you find yourself stuck it may be that you are not doing what you were intended to. If you lack passion for your life, your job or your spouse it is very likely that you have crammed a square peg into a round hole! I’ve done it and know many others who have as well until they finally either took the time to really get focused on what they were passionate about, or they were forced by circumstances to reevaluate their lives. I hope for you, it will be the latter, because I can tell you from personal experience that having circumstances dictate the time to get real isn’t pleasant!
