Treatment Options In A Drug Treatment Center

Any good drug treatment center can offer you different kinds of treatments, the combinations of which can result in a successful recovery and rehabilitation. In a drug treatment center, the patient is examined and recommended to resort to the method that will suit him the best.

Detoxification

The primary treatment procedure followed by a drug treatment center is detoxification. The patient is helped in getting rid his habit of consuming drugs, and the body is purged of the traces of drug by following different processes. Detoxification is the first step, but it should be followed by therapies and other medications, which can help the patient continue with the abstinence procedure.

This period is quite tough for the patient, as he might experience various painful symptoms of withdrawal, which can be physical ailments, such as headache and nausea, or mental conditions, like depression. For this reason, psychiatric help is also offered as a part of the drug addiction treatment scheme.

Methadone Treatment

Methadone treatment can be rightfully called drug replacement therapy, as this medicine is used as a replacement substance for the opioids like heroine. To make the addict overcome his addiction, he is given doses of methadone. This can be a suitable recovery program because methadone involves the brain, reducing the urge for drugs. But being dependent on any substance will not resolve the addictive behavioral pattern and then it sometimes becomes difficult to give up methadone; therefore, many experts are against the use of methadone, fearing the side effects.

Outpatient Treatment

Many clinics have outpatient facilities, meaning outdoor treatment for patients. This option has its own merits and demerits. The biggest advantage is that it costs lesser than the residential programs. This can also help you hide your addiction problems from others, which is not possible in case of a residential treatment program. However, if one evaluates this option solely on the basis of the efficacy of the treatment, it might prove slightly inadequate. This is because the patient will spend only a very limited amount of time in the drug treatment center, and it will be difficult to guess what he is doing at other times of the day. Also, the patient will have to confront the same stress, environment, and people in the outside world even when the treatment is in progress. This might have a detrimental effect on the treatment procedure.

Inpatient Treatment

The inpatient treatments are residential programs that require you to stay at the treatment centers for a given amount of time, isolated from the rest of the world. There are various options regarding this facility, such as short-term stay, which can last for two weeks or a month, or the long-term one that can last for three months and might stretch for a specific period depending on the patient’s condition.

The long-term residential programs are more beneficial because adequate time is given to complete all treatment processes in a step-by-step manner. The detoxification, medication, administering therapies and counseling sessions can all be accommodated, and at the end of the session, there is a high chance of absolute recovery.

So there are many types of treatments offered by a drug treatment clinic, and the efficacy of each kind will depend on your condition and situation.
