Hemorrhoids are caused by swollen veins inside or outside of the anus. They can cause severe pain and bleeding. If not taken cared of at the first sign of its existence, then it may cause complications like localized inflammation and bleeding, and possibility of thrombosis hemorrhoids. However, you should never be satisfied to consider hemorrhoids as the correct diagnosis until all other causes of rectal bleeding have been ruled out.

In severe cases of hemorrhoids, surgery is highly recommended by doctors. It can be done according to the recommendation of the doctor. If your hemorrhoids are found internally, a general anesthesia is highly recommended because it will fall under a major operation which requires you to be hospitalized. If it is external hemorrhoids, it may only require you for a minor surgery as an out-patient.

In cases where surgery is not needed, there are various medications that are out in the market today. There is a variety of ointments that could be applied; and studies have been conducted on these products which can prove that these concoctions could readily do the job of removing hemorrhoids. The treatment would not happen overnight. However, with constant care, medical applications, and with accompanying high fiber diet with plenty of water in-take, hemorrhoids could then be eliminated.

Sitz baths are useful in treating any condition involving the rectum or the pelvis, and most especially hemorrhoids. With this simple method, muscle cramps and hemorrhoidal pain can often be relieved without having to use powerful drugs. This bath can also relieve urinary retention and spasms of the rectum. The sitz bath procedure is so simple that you could do it even at the comfort of your own home. First, you sit on a folded towel in a tub of warm water for a period of 15 to 30 minutes several times a day. The water should be six inches deep and has a temperature of 110-120 degrees Fahrenheit. It could also be done with alternately using both cold and hot water that will increase the effectiveness of the treatment. To add to this, there are several essential oils and creams that could be added to the hot or cold water for soothing the anal surface. This is very beneficial following operations on the rectum for hemorrhoids, fissures and other similar conditions.

Having hemorrhoids is not the end of the world. In this day and age where nothing is impossible, various studies have been made to cure this condition. All we need is a good doctor, and education on this ailment.
