Elsie Barnes just came back from skiarea and was complaining to her friend Bertha Carlson about the miserable problems she had with dry skin from the frigid winds. Bertha told her that she had exactly the same problem at Slavske, Ukraine. An very experienced skiier explained the three ways that will keep your skin in good condition in cold weather. She definitely expects to use that on her trip to Kongsberg, Norway next winter.

Winter is the harshest time for our skin. Many people are plagued with itchy, irritated, cracked and painful skin. Heading to the local market to pick up the most well known healing lotions and creams to help get rid of the irritation and heal the roughness for moments of relief. However, people are passing up on the vital and cheap methods to not only get the help you need for dry, chapped and cracked skin, but also can go a long way to prevent it.

Bodies are made up mostly of water. For some reason, in the winter months, we overlook the need we have of drinking enough water. In the summer, when we are sweating and working out, we we feel how much we need to drink lots of water to help replace the water that we have lost. During the winter the frigid air does much the same to our body. It withdraws that water right out of our bodies. This then dries and cracks our skin, leaving it flaking and itchy. Making sure that you down 8 to 10 glasses of water a day will help you win the battle over dried out and rough skin. Try this out for the next two weeks and you will begin to see a noticeable positive change in your skin in a matter of days.

Speaking of the necesity of moist skin, a reliable moisturizing lotion is also a good idea. Try to get one that fits your skin type so that you aren?t going to end up with oily uncomfortable skin. I recommend a cream over a lotion in the cold, since a cream is thicker and more protective of the skin. It is also a good idea to spend the time you need to read the label. The cream or lotion that you use in the summer is great for the summer, in the winter you will most likely need a different lotion. Stay away from a cream or lotion with alcohol in the first few ingredients, as alcohol is a drying agent.

Dress with the right clothing in the winter. Don't poo poo this, think about it. Any bare skin that you have increases the opportunity that the cold air has to remove the moisture from your skin. It is also a good idea to try to layer your clothes and let that first layer be clothes that are made of cotton. Cotton will let you skin breathe, will keep you warm and won?t irritate your skin.

Take these three simple steps, you will not only get relief from that really dry skin, but you will help prevent your skin from becoming dry. Plenty of water, the proper moisturizing cream and the right clothing and you will have healthy, well hydrated, comfortable skin.
