Turkey holidays give history lovers a chance to discover all of this interesting past, as well as making the ideal base from which to try out some adventurous pursuits.

Turkey is a country full of holiday adventures. The Mediterranean, Aegean, Marmarran and Black seas make up each of Turkey's geographical regions, with each area rich in culture and a draw for a range of extreme and adventure sports. The excellent Mediterranean climate, miles of unspoilt beaches, lakes, and charming towns and villages all add to the charm and intrigue of an activity-based holiday in Turkey.

Inland, water sports can get very dramatic, with the white-water thrills of the Coruh River in the north east of Turkey renowned across the world. The south east coast of Turkey is popular for paragliding, with Baba Dag Mountain a popular take off point for Para gliders with plenty of experience.

A more adventurous way of appreciating Turkey's beaches than by just arriving by coach or car is to view them from the water by kayak. Tours can be arranged for families and groups, with plenty of places to hire boats and equipment. For those more comfortable on two feet, there are also endless treks through Turkey's diverse natural environment to be enjoyed. Committed walkers may be tempted to take on some of the famous Lycian Way. The route incorporates glorious cliff top views, ancient ruins, and fabulous beaches – one of the best long distance holiday routes to be found anywhere.

Exploring Turkey on horseback is another option for an outdoor break. One of the increasingly popular activities in Turkey is riding, with a range of equine centres offering treks for a range of levels and some stunning locations to discover on horseback. Taking in the sights of Turkey on horseback can give a whole new perspective on Turkey's rich and varied historical past and culture.

Turkey villas are often situated in areas where extreme sports and adventure activities are popular. All that exercise and fresh air is bound to work up a healthy appetite.

Other highlights of Turkey's adventuring activities include some excellent sailing conditions. With all sorts of yachts, dinghies and boats available for hire or instruction, windsurfing, and of course plenty of swimming or snorkelling for the more laid back moments of your holidays in Turkey.

With some top class places to stay and an excellent range of sports and activities, Turkey is a stylish, unspoilt, and hugely varied country to explore. With fine weather virtually guaranteed, any time is the right time to spend an adventure break in Turkey
