Quite a few media outlets have reported on the news that movie star Dennis Hopper has joined a long list of famous men that have had to battle Prostate Cancer. Dennis Hopper's battle isn't going very well and reports in early 2010 have stated he is in the end stages of his battle with the disease. Reports state that Tiger Woods has reached out to the dying star.

The battle is one that is most definitely fraught with emotion by the person stricken with the illness but it is also a battle that friends and close family members painfully endure as well. According to multiple sources, Tiger Woods is said to have reached out and sent best wishes to Dennis Hopper through his people. Tiger Woods is no stranger to Prostate Cancer and is a big fan of Hopper's work with the 1969 classic movie Easy Rider being among Woods' all-time favorite movies.

The late Earl Woods, Tiger's Dad, passed away due to a heart attack in 2006 but Mr. Woods had his own battles with Prostate Cancer in 1998 and again in 2004 when the disease re-surfaced. Men who watch their fathers battle this disease often feel powerless. Not only do they feel that way because of watching their loved one battle such a deadly disease but men who have a family history of prostate health problems need to be very vigilant with their own health as well due to a high heredity factor. Tiger Woods should take comfort in knowing that despite heredity, early detection can increase the chances of survival. Another golf great Arnold Palmer, won his battle with Prostate Cancer in 1997. Not long after surgery, Mr. Palmer was able to return to the game.

Prostate Cancer Heredity

While the disease can be asymptomatic in early stages, men who have a family history of prostate health problems should be very vigilant in getting medical examinations and watching for any signs and symptoms of an enlarged prostate. Symptoms of prostate problems (not all of which will be Cancer, but that should be further investigated) can include:

• A weak or interrupted flow of urination
• Frequent night-time urination
• Blood in the urine
• Painful ejaculation

http://www.healthdiaries.com/famous-prostate.htm reports quite a few other famous people that have battled, are battling, and in some cases that have sadly succumbed to Prostate Cancer. Some of the names on that list include: James Brown, Robert DeNiro, Rudy Giuliani, Nelson Mandela, Telly Savalas, Roger Moore, Bill Bixby, and Harry Belafonte. Dennis Hopper's disease is said to have been diagnosed in the advanced stages when Mr. Hopper was admitted to the hospital due to severe flu-like symptoms.
