Statistics show that divorce is on the decline. The Enrichment Journal reports that the number for people who get hitched for the first time is forty one percent.

That's a nine percent decrease but is it a reason to start the celebration? Given the fact second and third marriage divorce rates remain high the answer is probably not.

And the recession may be giving these statistics a false positive. Couples that have considered divorcing are finding it extremely difficult to follow through due to the economy.

Regardless of this economic crisis the question is still why do so many marriages fail? There is no one size fits all but you can guess that a great many people have said "I do" for the wrong reasons. Like:

1. Love at First Sight

You meet someone for the first time and fall in love. Many people have experienced this and not too long afterwards decided to get married. Many of these same couples not too long afterwards have found themselves in divorce court.

It is possible for a happy marriage to be the result of love at first sight. The issue is it remains a poor substitute for getting to know someone. That takes ti,e and quite often has little appeal to our romantic nature.

It is understood going that route is no promise of a long successful marriage either. But love at first sight followed by a dash down the aisle only increases the chances that you are going to discover a lot more surprises (many of them unpleasant) once the honeymoon is over.

2. The Sex

It was terrific maybe the best the two of you have ever experienced. Will it carry you through the marriage? No.

Sex is an important part of a successful marriage but it cannot be the only part or take priority over everything else that makes a relationship what it is. Sex is a wonderful way to show love but it is not the total package of love. Many couples have confused the two.

3. Falling In Love With Love

A wedding and the thought of romance can do a number on your emotions. It can make you feel you are on cloud nine and will be maintaining a permanent residence there.

Sure you want the romance to continue once the vows have been exchanged but to make sure it does jsut that requires constant work which in many instances is hard and unromantic. This basic fact has caused more than a few marriages to go downhill rapidly.

The forty one percent divorce rate for first time couples is a not good.. Even the fifty eight percent that stayed married are probably not experiencing pure bliss. Life unfortunately does not work that way let alone offer those type of promises.

In fact it can and will test you. In that classroom a lot of couples have come up short grade wise. So the best thing you can do is to not give it any more ammunition by getting married for the wrong reasons.
