Ambleside is located right at the northern tip of the biggest of England's lakes. It is a heaven for walkers, climbers, cyclists and water enthusiasts alike. There is masses of shopping to be had in the immediate area.

Head out a short way from the town itself and you may see cannoists trying their skills on the rivers that feed the lake. From Ambleside you can join countless different boat trips down the lake or hire a boat for your own use. Maybe get a boat to the admired town of Bowness on Windermere or further down the lake to visit the Aquarium and steam train. For the active, a walk back from Bowness is without doubt managable, either the straightforward course or get the ferry across the lake and walk around the top end of Lake Windermere for a longer walk back.
