DISH TV or Direct to Home TV is a platform where a circular shaped antenna is used to get the signals from the satellites, which are in space. The antennas on getting the signals transmit that to the satellite receiver and from the signals are transmitted to the TV device for viewing. From here it is concluded that a typical home satellite television kit consists of a satellite receiver, DISH antenna, coaxial cables and connectors.

Previously the satellite DISH antennas used to be very heavy and expensive. They were made from heavy and expensive metals. Due to their huge size, they normally take up huge chunk of space in a yard. Since the antennas were made from expensive materials, the price of these devices used to be very high in the past. Things have now changed a lot. The size and weight of DISH antennas got reduced. Therefore people can now install the DISH antennas on the rooftop or in the balcony of their residence. The antennas are now made from high quality plastic instead of heavy metals.

The satellites signals are converted in a special format called MPEG 4. This is a format that has been standardized by the Moving Picture Experts Group. Compression the video file allows a DTH service provider to deliver large number of TV channels on the same bandwidth. Some of the well known DTH or direct to home television service provider in the US previously used MPEG 2 for broadcasting TV programs. This video compression technology is still used to store a complete movie in a DVD, which is a type of storage media.

This type of TV broadcasting platform has five important components. They are the programming source, broadcast center, satellite, DISH antenna and the last one is satellite receiver. The programming sources are referred to the TV channels, which contains the programs to be broadcasted. In this place the TV contents are created and then they are transmitted to the broadcast center. The broadcast center, which is the second component, acts as an important link between the TV contents and its viewers.

The broadcast center is even referred as the central hub of the entire satellite television system. Here the television signals are first received from several programming sources and after that it is transmitted back to the satellites, which are in geosynchronous orbit. The signals are then received by the DISH antennas that are normally mounted on the rooftop of subscriber’s residence. The transmitted signals then enter the satellite receiver for getting converted into analog signals. After the conversion, the signals are then send to the TV set for viewing purpose.

This is how the entire DISH TV system works. So next you tune in to your preferred direct to home TV channel, just try to visualize the entire transmission process for a while. You will realize that satellite TV is truly a technological wonder. The superb picture and the brilliant sound on your existing TV is the reason that more people are now installing DISH antennas on their premises.
