This is part two in a series of penny-pinching articles that will show your small business how to scrimp and save to stay afloat in the faltering economy. Our tips will cover everything from marketing your business with less money to getting the most tax benefits possible from Uncle Sam each with the small business in mind.

In this day and age, it is crucial that all businesses have a web presence. Not only is the Internet quickly becoming the turn-to spot for locating contact information in lieu of reaching for the telephone directory (sorry, Yellow Pages), but it is also a fabulous way for you to reach a huge audience of potential customers that might not even know that your small business exists to keeping in touch and providing an optimal level of customer service for your current customers and clients. Additionally, you also open up the potential of doing virtual business with customers via an online store complete with a virtual shopping cart and instantaneous payment options. If you don't already have a website, now is the time to contact a reputable website design and development company and have one built or at least take advantage of some of the free websites that allow you to set up an informational, brochure type website that showcases your contact information and tells the world a little bit about you.

Some quick tips for establishing and maintaining your small business online presence to increase sales, maximize leads for new clients and customers, and grow your business:

Online promotion of your small business is fun and easy once you have determined your niche audience. There are several searches that you can run to decide who would most benefit from and enjoy your products and services including browsing through Usenet newsgroups and forums.

Not ready to try a full-fledged online store just yet? Start small by selling items on Yahoo Auctions or eBay the cost is minimal and doing so will give you a glimpse into what types of products are most in demand and the rewards of doing business in cyberspace.

Join forums and newsgroups that your niche market enjoys, and write posts that provide useful information while always including a link back to your business URL so that interested parties can click to find out more. Discussion boards like this are fabulous methods for advertising and promoting your small business online without any cost whatsoever other than your time.
Once you have established a website, be sure to include your website name and web address on your company letterhead, business cards, email, promotional flyers, company vehicles, telephone directory and other advertisements, shopping bags everywhere you normally have your name in print.

Market your website (and thus, your business) through the use of article submissions. Many businesses will write articles on a topic of interest related to their products, submit the article to free article submission sites, and include their business URL in the resource box. For example, if you are selling fitness equipment you can write an article on the benefits of exercise. This is a proven way to draw traffic to your website.
