The Truth About Catalogue Cards And Rebuilding Credit

For many of us who have had the unfortunate experience of financial setbacks, resulting in less than perfect credit, moving forward with our financial lives can be a daunting task. Since so much of our modern day financial transactions are completed by using a three digit credit score to judge credit worthiness, having a score on the low end can make purchasing items you need or want difficult and expensive. There are options available to assist with restoring a credit record and the use of Catalogue Cards is just one of those methods available.

What is a Catalogue Card, you may ask? The quick explanation is that it functions much like a store card in that you can use the Catalogue Card to purchase merchandise that is offered on the company’s website. The merchandise available for purchase varies from catalogue company to catalogue company; however, you will often find items that you find on many other online stores.

Some companies include categories like seasonal products, clothing, computers, electronics, home and garden accessories, pet supplies, sporting good, toys, baby items, closeout specials and many categories in between.

You will usually be required to have an approved account to get full access to everything that the catalogue company offers, but that is typical of many other club-based retail outlets. Often, the company will offer a free trial period in which you can review the items located within their site. Each company is different so you will want to review their terms and conditions to see if this option is available.

Yes, the merchandise is nice, but that is not my point. Many of these catalogue companies also have the added benefit of giving someone with poor or no credit an opportunity to re-build their credit profile. Most advertise that they report your pay history to a major credit reporting bureau which can help improve your credit profile. In addition, with generous offers of high credit lines, a Catalogue Card allows an opportunity to qualify more quickly for better credit offers in the future. How good will it feel to get a message that says "You’re Approved!"

Because of the structure of the Catalogue Cards, the APR is usually very low, in some cases as low as 0% in the first year which is the case with my favorite catalogue card. There is usually a monthly fee involved but most people feel that because of the high credit lines, these monthly fees are a small price to pay to get back on track to financial recovery.

As with any credit offer it is prudent to review the Terms and Conditions for each company so that you can be sure to take full advantage of the benefits offered. Your experience with any catalogue company is sure to be more satisfying when you understand what is expected of you and also what the company offers to you. When you have the opportunity to purchase items that you are interested in and also have the benefit of rebuilding your credit, you may come to believe that a Catalogue Card is a tool you want to use.

It is smart to view a Catalogue Card as a tool for credit that you can control, rather than fall into the trap of having credit control you. Good credit management comes with the understanding of being in control of your financial matters. You may need to pay a little bit now to improve your credit opportunities, but this can be viewed as an investment into your financial future. With measured steps that include establishing good financial habits and an on-time payment track record with a Catalogue Card company, you can find yourself back on track to receive the best credit terms available for other purchases in your future such as a car or a home.
