Florida is a name which evokes images of sun, sea and sand, but it''s not just the climate which makes Florida one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The jewel in the crown of the Sunshine State''s tourist industry is, without a doubt, Orlando, home to some of the most famous amusement parks in the world.

At the very top of that list is Disney World. Disney World is one enormous amusement park broken down into smaller areas of attractions, some of which are world famous in their own right. Disney World hosts the Magic Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon and Disney''s Hollywood Studios to name just a few, and if you''re in Orlando, you can''t miss a trip to Disney World.

Another famous place that you have to visit is SeaWorld. SeaWorld is an enormous amusement park based on, unsurprisingly, the sea. Whilst there are a number of rollercoaster and water rides, SeaWorld is most famous for its zoological displays featuring dolphins, killer whales, seals, and just about any other water animal you can think of.

The third of Orlando''s major tourist attractions is Universal Orlando, which, like Disney, is broken down into a plethora of different amusement parks and attractions. Probably the most famous element of Universal Orlando is the Universal Studios which are not to be missed.

In no small part due to the tourists that flock to the city each year, Orlando is a rapidly developing city. It already has the second greatest number of hotels in the USA, with many more on the way. If you''re visiting Orlando, you''re never going to be short of a place to stay. A good tip is not to get a hotel room in one of the amusement parks as you pay a premium for your proximity to the entertainment.

As well as the theme parks, Orlando is renowned for its bustling arts scene. Many films and television shows are made in Orlando due to Disney and Universal''s studios and incentives from the Florida state government to filmmakers. There is also a strong theatre community in the city, and shows running throughout the year.

Vast numbers of tourists visit Orlando during the summer months, but a really good time to visit is during the spring. Each year there is the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival (a bit like the Edinburgh Fringe) which draws theatre companies from all around the world. The atmosphere is amazing and there is a practically endless list of things to see and do.

Orlando is one of the world''s great tourist destinations and still developing all the time. Flights across the Atlantic are cheaper than ever, so if you''re thinking about a holiday abroad this year, why not head out to the Sunshine State?
