What exactly is the raw and living diet?
The raw and living food diet (or simply living foods) is a lifestyle and diet which encourages the eating of unprocessed foods, either not cooked to any degree, otherwise cooked slowly at low temperatures (115 deg F is the generally accepted max), so as not to cook away life giving nutrients or digestive enzymes. the raw and living diet usually involves eating ,for the most part, organic plant foods. Some raw foodists consider the raw organic vegan diet as the most health lifestyle and diet on the planet.
What foods does a raw foodist generally eat?
Contingent on the commitment level and type of raw diet chosen, raw diets for the most part include raw fruit, veggies, dark green leafy vegetable, fresh spices and herbs, seaweed, nuts and seeds, and germinated nuts and seeds.
Seeds and nuts are suggested to be soaked in water to activate digestive enzymes and to convert them from an acidic state to being more alkaline.
Often, raw foodists will also drink green smoothies or juices every day and maybe even solely as a component of a fast or overall lifestyle. Green smoothies are simply fruit smoothies mixed with greens like spinach. Veggie juices or green juices are just veggies that have had the majority of their pulp removed using a juicer machine.
Some of the above mentioned food can be slightly processed, and raw eaters often enjoy and would rather be taking care of the processing themselves, in order to conjure up foods such as nut butters, veggie or fruit leathers and bars, dried and cured vegetables or fruits, among others.
What potential benefits come from being on raw foods?
Raw foodists have made 1 or more of the upcoming health claims after adhering to a raw foods or high raw or living foods diet regime: fat reduction, increased energy, clearer skin, better digestion, toxic removal, stronger immune function, and enhanced overall health.
Also, a lot less time is used up preparing foods and cleanup is often much faster, depending how simplified or complicated you intend to go about it. It has been seen that less cash is often necessary to be spent on over the counter medications. Less expensive appliances, or no appliances, are required so lower power usage is needed.
Where do living foodists get their calcium, B12, protein and iron?
Quick answer.. from the previously mentioned food :D
Fruits, veggies, sprouts, beans, seeds, nuts all contain protein. Vegan bodybuilders sometimes "supplement" with hemp, which to some raw foodists is said to be the better source of protein in the plant kingdom (others consider yellow pea to be the best, and others will still often eat soy foods to get their).
Same as for protein, greens like kale or spinach, seeds, beans etc. contain calcium, and even iron (ask Popeye if you don't believe me).
B12 vitamin is debatable. Some suggest that there are algaes that contain B12 vitamin, others suggest nutritional yeast is a great source, yet others say that B12 will recycle itself in the intestine for several years so there is some present in most cases. Some living foodists will eat cooked/raw eggs as a good source of B12. Others will supplement. How I look at it is if my lab results do not show a deficiency (I check every 2 months) then I am happy.
