The Main Reasons For Gift Baskets

One day, I went to visit an 80 year old woman and she started telling me about her 80th birthday which unknowingly to me was celebrated two weeks before my visit. As she told her story, something caught my attention when she said “And Tina my friend’s daughter came with a gift basket”. “Hmn”, I said to myself “…came with a gift basket”. “Did you receive other gifts during the occasion?” I asked. “Oh Yes!” She replied “Some gave me cards, some brought flowers, a lot of gifts; I felt loved.” I did not need to ask her another question. I had got the point. She got a lot of gifts but none of them was as special to her as the gift basket. As she continued her story, I started putting together in my mind the reasons why gift baskets should be encouraged. These reasons are what I want to share with you here.

1. Personalization: Gift baskets are usually put together according to the occasion and according to the need of the recipient. By this I mean that the giver usually considers the age of the recipient, the gender and the occasion for which the gift is to be given. So, one can put together a gift basket for a birthday, mother’s day, father’s day, wedding, anniversary, graduation, baby shower, etc

2. Impression of high cost: Because gift baskets contain a lot of different items, an impression is given to the recipient that the giver spent a lot of money to purchase the gift. This might not be true but the impression has been created and the gift appreciated to that level.

3. Durability: The different items that make up the gift basket are not usually used up in one day. It takes time for all the items to be used up thereby making the gift basket durable.

4. General acceptability: It is accepted by everyone, male or female, young and old, big or small. I am yet to see anyone that will reject a gift basket.

5. Feeling of Fun: Items are put together in a gift basket in way that usually creates a sense of humor. These include the ribbons that are attached, the stuffed animals, etc. This feeling of humor and fun adds more color to the occasion.

6. Elimination of confusion: Gift baskets are the best gifts to give to someone who ‘owns everything’. That means that the giver is confused about what to buy for the recipient since the recipient seem to own everything. Have you ever noticed some people in a gift shop picking one thing and dropping it, picking another and then getting to the cashier only to change their minds? If you ever figure out that they are confused on what to buy for a gift, and you feel you can approach them, kindly suggest to them to get a gift basket for the person.

7. Budget friendly: Gift baskets come in different sizes and prices. One can put together a gift basket for only $25.00. I got a $25 gift basket one Christmas when we had nothing, and I will never forget it. I only knew that it was that price because I somehow overheard it. So, whether one’s budget is low or high, a gift basket that will fit the budget can always be got.
