The Impact of Diet on Yeast Infection

Yeast infection is triggered by minuscule bacteria called Candida. These bacteria live on the surface of our body, mainly the genital area and the oral cavity, and additionally in our gastrointestinal tract. They are considered necessary by our bodies to keep unhealthy bacteria in check.

In a normal healthy individual, the Candida is kept in balance by healthy pro-biotic bacteria and a normally performing immune system.

Unfortunately under a range of different conditions our body's healthy inner equilibrium might be disrupted. When this takes place the Candida can then multiply out of control and, if we do not take action without delay, it can change from a yeast type into a fungal variety which produces root-like structures which can penetrate the walls of our intestines.

What should I avoid eating?

The general theory is that we are looking to get rid of everything that the yeast may feed on.

This includes cakes, pastries, doughnuts, sweetened drinks, natural sugar and processed sugar. All in all steer clear of everything containing any type of sugar or sugar replacement as much as possible.

Try to stay away from refined carbohydrates, including white flour, white pasta, white rice and any type of cereals. Make an effort to replace refined carbohydrates with whole grain products.

Try to steer clear of milk and dairy products including cheese and yoghurts. Your body treats lactose as sugar and the yeast will feed on it.

Stay away from alcoholic drinks wherever you can. Yeast is used in the course of the fermentation process and a lot of beers and wines in particular contain a lot of yeast and sugar. Alcohol could also weaken the immune system. A tough healthy immune system is part of what is desirable to prevent Candida overgrowth.

Try to stay away from any fermented or malted food products including bread, pizza, cakes, biscuits and anything encrusted in bread or bread crumbs.

Remember that diet is simply a small component of a proper holistic treatment

Please take into account that while diet might have a major impact on the prevention and treatment of Candida, it is only a minor element of the proper holistic treatment that I would commend as a complete lasting cure.
