If you want to learn playing a guitar, you might be wondering whether to start with an electric or an acoustic guitar. Needless to say, that the guitar course you will choose will also depend on the kind of instrument you want to play. There are good electric guitar courses and equally great acoustic guitar courses available in the market. A comparison between them will help you to make an informed decision.
An electric guitar is a very different musical instrument than acoustic guitar. An acoustic guitar is a hollow instrument and produces its sound through reverberations. The sound is not electrically distorted. But the very basis of a plugged in instrument is sound distortion and amplification through amplifiers and distortion pedals. So, you will need very different courses for different guitars.
Good courses have much more stress on playing rock and metal music. An electric guitar is a more public instrument than acoustic guitar because it is louder and faster. Therefore, any one who wants to learn the non acoustic guitar has the secret ambition of becoming a lead guitarist or playing in front of a crowd.
So, the guitar courses for electric guitar have more stress on techniques like hammer on, vibratos, pull off, muting, speed picking, string bending etc. Most leading rock or metal guitarists are masters of these techniques and the songs are also based on these know-how. These instructional courses will also give a lot of stress on scales like pentatonic, and chromatic scales.
An acoustic guitar course will give a lot of stress on finger techniques. You will hear terms like arpeggios, chord theories, strumming techniques rather than guitar riffs, deadly solos and such other terms that are generally associated with guitars. There will be more emphasis on picking up the technique before you move on to playing songs. But in guitar courses for guitar, you might move on to the actual playing part much more quickly.
But there are certain courses that give equal stress on acoustic and rock techniques, at least at the beginner’s level. So, there are a lot of choices available for you. You can pick any good one and can fulfill your dream of playing a guitar.
