You might have heard of the Candida diet, but do you know what it is and how it works?
The diet for Candida is a 3 step diet that will help you two ways;
1) It will help to kill the fungus
2) You will be able to identify which foods you are sensitive to which will help you to heal faster and even prevent further infections.

Stage one of the diet for Candida
Step one is non negotiable, the fungus must be starved by taking out the foods the that may be responsible for placing stress on our immune system.
In a nutshell this means that we are taking out food containing; sugar, carbohydrates (simple or otherwise), starch, yeast, mold, gluten, grains, wheat or dairy. Any foods that are fermented - like Soy Sauce and vinegar are also out at this stage.
A very general rule here is if you have any doubt about whether you are allowed a food then it is best not to include it.

It is probably easier to tell you what you can eat in stage one of a Diet for Candida.
Most green vegetables are OK
Add some color with red, yellow or orange peppers.
Zucchini, cucumbers and squash
Lean meat, chicken and fish.
Omega oils - Essential fatty acids are essential
Some say that whole grains, small amounts of cottage cheese and cultured yogurt are OK
The best idea is to go with what you feel you can do - if you need cottage cheese on your celery you go for it!

Most programs will say to stay on stage one for 2-4 weeks depending on the severity of your infection.

Stage two of the Diet for Candida
Now that our system has had a chance to heal, it is time to slowly reintroduce some basic foods back into our diet. The most important part here is to notice what your body does as these foods are eaten. If you get any reaction at all - even if it is only your heart rate speeding up, then you will have to stop eating that food for at least another two weeks.

Stage three of the Diet for Candida
This is where you can relax and enjoy your food again without fear. By the time they get to stage three of the diet for Candida, most people find that they are more than happy to continue with the diet permanently, but with the added bonus of being able to enjoy family fast food night again!

How long should the diet for Candida last?
At least 6 weeks for mild cases, 6 months for moderate case and I have heard of people being on a diet for Candida for up to 2 years for advanced or systemic cases.
Truth be told, most people find that they are more than comfortable to include parts of the diet for Candida in their staple diet permanently.

Will the diet for Candida cure me??
There is no doubt that the diet for Candida will make you feel loads better. It does help to eradicate the fungus and help you to avoid those foods that were keeping you unwell. But to regain full health and kill the Candida completely we do need to follow a regime of supplements that include anti-fungals, nutrients to aid healing and kidney and liver cleanses to help flush out the toxins left behind by the Candida.
