The resort of Blackpool is famed for numerous things such as the Blackpool Tower and Circus, the Pepsi Max Big One at the Pleasure Beach and the historic tram. However, it is the Festival of Light and the Blackpool Illuminations that is the resort's biggest visitor attraction.

Blackpool Illuminations shine every year for sixty six nights from late August or early September to early November. They light up 6 miles (10km) of the seafront. It is an incredibly spectacular scene and one that is enjoyed by everyone. The show stretches from Starr Gate at the south end of the town to Bispham in the north.

There really are loads of options for viewing the illuminations. You can, of course, drive yourself but a common means to see the Illuminations is by Tram. You will find that Illuminated Trams shape part of the show and present excursions that run the full extent of the Lights. The Illuminations are far more than just a show of lights. You have to see it for yourself to thoroughly understand the experience. There are undeniably lots of coloured lights however they are arranged in many formats providing a constantly moving and changing exhibit. You'll notice a number of sections that are best experienced on foot as they are made up of illuminated panels providing an entertaining picture show. There are even laser light displays which will no doubt amaze you. Some of the illuminations tell a tale and even incorporate music and water fountains to provide the most awesome of entertainment.

If you have visited the Blackpool Lights in the past, you might feel you have seen it all before but you would be wrong. Every year, there are new sections added and they are always larger and better and even more spectacular than ever before. The existing Illuminations are re-arranged and enhanced upon each year so there really is always something fresh and exciting.

There is lots to see and do in Blackpool throughout the illuminations. The swirtch-on night is usually extremely busy as there is a ceremony that attracts a huge number of guests. The Illuminations are always switched on by a big personality and there is an open-air concert leading up to the occasion. October half term is another exceptionally popular time to see the Lights so, if you want to visit during those busy times, you do have to reserve your accommodation early on.

Blackpool is a resort that has a lot to offer so it has always been a popular destination for summer holidays. However, as Blackpool Illuminations are staged in the Autumn when most other beach destinations are closing for business, it is also a popular getaway for Autumn breaks. During the Illuminations, all of Blackpool's attractions are very much open for business and you will find there are lots of stage shows and events to entertain you. A visit to Blackpool Illuminations is not to be missed and will no doubt provide a amazing, vibrant and thrilling experience for everyone.
