The selection process can be very simple, the fact remains, it is quite complicated and depends on a number of factors.

As far as "What's the best Network Marketing or Home Based Business?" Well, what's good for one is not necessarily good for all. All I can say is that it depends upon you. What are your goals and are they well defined and achievable? What is your business experience? Do you have a well thought out business plan, or do you plan to fail?

Face it; ever since the Internet became a factor in the Home Based Business Arena, many have joined a company simply based on the hype presented in their web based advertisement. Most of us are visually stimulated and motivated to act by creative presentations that promise riches beyond our wildest dreams. The art of persuasive advertising that has been perfected in the television marketplace is now exploding on the Internet. So just like tiny fishes, we all chase after the pretty shinny lures, in hopes of catching the next wave. After all, here in America, our dreams of untold riches are about to come true!

Web sites and capture pages have evolved over the last decade and the number of opportunities has probably quadrupled if not more. Replicated websites, Social Media Video, Video Blogging and Article Marketing, although very effective have added clutter and more confusion to the unsuspecting new prospect. The fact is; most Network Marketers today have no idea what the sales process is all about. This is very evident on sites such as You Tube where they upload their company's compensation videos and try to spam them throughout the system.

Clearly; there are some very good companies out there that have dynamite web sites with very effective capture pages. These replicated web sites offer back offices with more functions than most can understand let alone activate effectively. But the fact still remains that if you are not able to drive traffic to, or attract prospect to your web site, then your site is just another fish in the ocean. One small fish in a school of 1000's; totally unnoticed. You keep swimming in circles hoping that something will happen; and then it does! It's called a "reality check". You're credit card statement arrives and you realize that your maxed out! Not only did you put thousands of dollars at risk, now you still have to pay it back with interest. So what's next step; that's right, you go out of business! But, its reality check time again folks; guess what, you were never in business; you, were someone else's business!

This is what happened to me, I wonder how many can identify with this. For years I had experienced so much frustration simply because I had pigeon-holed myself into one Network Marketing Company, so much so, that the rest of the business world passed on by. I had become a slave to someone else's system that insured that everyone else made money before I did!

All of the training I received was company specific and the system insured that I would be dependent upon others in that company, especially monetarily! Because I was new to the industry, I freely bought into the idea that without them; my business could not succeed. Then one day I realized that I really wasn't in business for myself; in fact, I; was their business! To test my theory, I cancelled my product auto ship program as well as my auto ship for leads for a couple months in an effort to regroup. Well, it didn't take long for me to become the bad guy. Soon after, I started receiving calls from my up line. Almost demanding an explanation for the cancelling my auto ships. What I was really hearing was; "How dare you mess with their business!" That's right, their business, not mine!

Well some time has passed and I have adopted a different attitude. Ironically, it was the day I cracked open a fortune cookie at a local Chinese restaurant!

The fortune read: "Only you can guarantee your success: "If it is to be, it's up to me!"

Wow! That hit me right between the eyes! I came to the conclusion that if I was going to be in business, that it would be my business, not someone else's! After a lot research and study; I created a business plan, and I call it "My Funded Proposal".

Ok, back to the topic: How to choice the right Home Based Business!

It all boils down to your personal skill set. What do you know, that you know you can do? Do you have any sales experience? If you answer no, are you willing to learn? If you answered yes, are you willing to learn more?

What are your computer skills; are you able to effectively use a word processor, build a data base, how about spreadsheets? What Internet marketing skills to you have? What real world marketing skills to you have? Can you build a web site with a little guidance; do you understand how to use HTML? Folks, if you're going to be in business for yourself you have to know how to do all of this! But don't fear; all of this can be learned.

My advice is to find a MENTOR: Someone that has your best interest at heart. He or she has learned that true wealth comes to those who help others.

Expect a true mentor to act like this. In the beginning of your relationship, hold your hand when you need encouragement. Teach you the value of time management. Assign projects for you to complete that will broaden your skill set, and refuse to move forward until they are completed. And, expect them to totally ignore you when you miss a deadline, and to kick your butt when you challenge them for ignoring you! And believe it or not, in this process you will learn how to become a mentor!

So the next time someone tries to recruit you into an opportunity, understand this. The person interviewing you is most likely only interested the fact that you can fog a mirror with your breath and possess a valid credit card. They are only interested if you are willing to become a dealer today and go on auto-ship for a couple hundred bucks a month? Why not give them a check, a reality check! Begin by asking questions about training and resources. How do they drive prospects to their replicated web site? How successful are they? If they tell you the back office has a ton of training resources, guess what, nothing new here! Ask what type of personal training they offer. Besides the company's marketing plan, do they do any other type of marketing.

Listen, if after all this the interviewer hasn't hung up on you, you now have a qualified prospect for a mentor! Keep asking questions and demand proof!

As I said earlier, simple but complicated! The important thing to understand is that it does not matter what company, product or service you choose to represent or which business model you employ. What matters is your ability to get your offer in front of qualified prospects. This is the Number 1 reason for failure in this business; in fact, any business! Unless your rich, and can afford to put thousands of dollars at risk outsourcing your advertising; I suggest that you learn how to market yourself , before starting any business. Spending yourself out of business is just plain DUMB!

So, here is your gold nugget for the day. The highway to success will only come through the application of an education!
