An Enlarged Prostate can occur for many different reasons. The most common reason for an enlarged prostate is age. More than half of the men over the age of 60 have reported the symptoms of an enlarged prostate at least once in their lives. The prostate can grow larger due to higher than normal prostate cell growth, but the reason why the cells multiply still remains unknown. The most likely culprits are hormones and a hormonal imbalance. The most common symptoms include difficulty in urination, a weaker than normal stream of urine, or the inability to begin to urinate. All of these symptoms are due to the squeezing of the urethra by the prostate.

Just how common is Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia? In all men over 60 years old it is estimated that 50 percent suffer from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Generally there are three ways to treat BPH. The two most common treatment methods have been drugs or surgery. Drugs may cause some very unwanted side effects along with costing you a bundle of money over your lifetime. Surgery with general anesthesia and a hospital stay effectively gets rid of the enlarged prostate tissue. But, who wants to spend time in the hospital. In my opinion (please consult an urologist before forming your opinion) Cooled ThermoTherapy is the best treatment option of the three. It is done in one office visit as an outpatient with local anesthesia and or medication.
Causes of an enlarged prostate:

? Hormone imbalance: As men age, the production of testosterone hormone is reduced and estrogen, a female hormone, increases. This hormonal imbalance can lead to cell growth that causes the prostate to enlarge?.
? Obesity: A dramatic increase in weight for middle aged men in the abdomen area and shrinkage of muscle mass may be the main factor for hormonal imbalances. Research shows that having an uncontrolled diet, which contains high saturated fats and transfats can cause a hormonal imbalance and result in an Enlarged Prostate. Studies say that high consumption of calories will indirectly stimulate enlargement of the prostate glands?.
? Mineral deficiency: Prostate glands normally require a high amount of zinc to function. Unfortunately, if your diet contains low levels of zinc it can cause the prostate gland to grow?.
? Genetic: A cause for prostate enlargement can be inherited from family members?.
? Testosterone: This is a male hormone and its deficiency can cause the prostate to enlarge. Its deficiency can assist in the accumulation of high amounts of dihydro-tosterone causing increased cell growth and the enlarged prostate?.
If we listen closely, our bodies speak to us. A slight headache could mean that you are dehydrated. Irritability can come from lack of sleep. Our bodies send us symptoms and it is up to us to listen. Some symptoms of an enlarged prostate could include low back pain, difficulty urinating and low abdominal pain to name a few. Enlarged Prostate Treatment could be fairly simple if the condition is caught early enough. Listen to what your body is telling you and never ignore it. You may think it is nothing, but it's always better to err on the side of caution.
