Thai Massage is a style of massage that involves stretching and deep massage. It is also called Thai Yoga Massage because the masseuse manipulates the body into various positions that are similar to yoga positions. It is similar to doing yoga but there is no work involved for the client, just the masseuse. Muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure are also used during a Thai massage treatment. The combination of energetic and physical aspects is what makes Thai Massage unique and so effective. The massage is usually performed on a padded floor as opposed to the table used for most massage techniques. There is no oil applied during the massage, and the client is fully dressed. The client is asked to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing due to the activity and stretching involved.
Traditional Thai massage is really a deep, full-body treatment, starting at the feet and progressing up to the head. Using a sequence of gentle, flowing exercise movements, the client's body is moved, loosened and stretched about the joints and the muscles. Through application of pressure on energy lines and points, and a vast array of passive stretching movements performed with the hands, feet, knees and elbow's, the body experiences profound relaxation, peripheral stimulation of internal organs, increased flexibility and increased flow of energy. Thai Yoga Massage stimulates and balances the flow of healing energy within the body, opening the areas which are blocked bringing the person deeper into balance and harmony for health, happiness and wellness of being. Thai massage gives the client flexibility, inner organ massage, oxygenation of the blood, and quieting of the mind.
Some of the physical benefits of Thai Massage include the detoxification of the body, boosting the immune system, increased circulation, lowered blood pressure, muscle relaxation and flexibility, improved athletic performance, relief from arthritis and back pain, increased muscle tone in the body, stronger joints, illness prevention, alleviation from degenerative disease, and a slowed aging process. The Mental Benefits of Thai massage includes an improved outlook towards life, a balancing of emotions, increased concentration and creativity, clearing a calming of the mind, and a gain in mental clarity.
There are also many psychological benefits of Thai massage. Some of these benefits are reduced stress and anxiety, boosted inner energy, development of discipline and self control, a raised level of energy, and increased stamina. Thai massage is based on the belief that all disease in the body is due to imbalances in the energy of the body. Therefore, Thai massage has a goal to promote energy balance and assist the healing of the entire body.
