There are many different kinds of family holiday currently on offer, from city breaks to mountain escapes, but one of our all time favourites remains the classic beach holiday. Gone our the days when a family beach holiday meant a trip to Butlins or Brighton, nowadays our beach-side breaks can take us to many exotic locations across the globe.

If you are looking for somewhere with fantastic weather, charming seascapes and a new culture to explore but you are reluctant to embark upon a long distance flight with your little ones, then Tenerife could be the perfect compromise.

A great introduction to the island''s native beauty is a trip up El Teide. Whether by foot - it is a 6 - 8 hour trip to ascend and descend on foot - or using the ever so convenient cable car - the views are sure to take your breath away. This is a great family activity that can appeal to all ages.

If you are travelling with flora and fauna loving little ones, then a trip to Loro Parque Zoo is sure to be a hit. Enjoy the luscious parkland whilst learning more about some of the world''s more exotic wildlife. Start early, take a packed lunch and have a picnic in a shady spot at noon and return home for a siesta when the heat starts to hit you.

A family trip to the beach is something special. Teaching your little ones to jump the waves and paddle in rock pools are precious experiences for everyone involved. Once they tire of the sand and the surf, however, you will be glad to have come equipped with books, puzzles, buckets and spades aplenty to be sure they don''t get bored.

There are many hotels that offer reputable, tried and tested child care facilities, which could allow you and your partner to embark on some more challenging hiking or simply have a day at a spa or reclining on the sands without worrying about plastering the little ones in factor 50 every time they emerge from the sea.

Babysitting facilities are also an option if after a family day out you fancy indulging in a romantic meal for two. Ask at your hotel for details. Prices are usually competitive.

There are many different kinds of Tenerife holidays available from a range of high street travel agents and online travel companies. Shopping around is the only way to guarantee yourself a good deal.
