The fact that the island is able to welcome visitors at all times of the year means that most cultural events receive their fair share of holiday audiences as well as local participation. In fact there are very few traditional events that the residents of Tenerife get to enjoy on their own. The early months of the year feature numerous carnival celebrations, a traditional time of merriment and partying before the period of Lent begins. rnrnThe UK is one of only a few places that doesn\'t seem to hold these events. Tenerife holds carnival events in every major town during February and March.rnrnOnce these Carnival events are completed the islanders involved in the tourism business then face a busy few weeks of preparing for the forthcoming summer months.rnrnConcert are always on the events schedule on Tenerife, because like the neighbouring islands of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria, the locals enjoy their music, with numerous native bands finding favour as well as a stream of international artists coming to the island to play their music. This year these include the rapper 50 Cent who, in March, will perform one of the first big concerts of 2010 on Tenerife, joining musicians like Elton John, Rod Stewart and Sting to get on stage in Tenerife.rnrnThe people of Tenerife love their sport and almost every type of activity finds a place throughout the year. The mainstream athletic sports like running, cycling, triathlon and swimming are all very popular and Tenerife has a flourishing sports-tourism sector in providing winter season training camps for thousands of athletes who travel there for the island\'s milder winter temperatures. One of the attractions that competes favourably with the La Santa resort on nearby Lanzarote is 3T, a specialist sports resort for track athletes, swimmers and tennis players. The centre also welcomes other sporting teams for their pre-season training camps.rnrnIn terms of sporting competition the island has plenty to offer both the amateur competitor and interested spectator. For runners one of the highlights of the sporting calendar comes in late June when Tenerife hosts its annual half marathon, as part of the Carrera del Atlantico.rnrnThe complete multi-stage race using courses in some of Tenerife\'s beautiful mountain regions. On day two of the event the organisers host the Canary Islands Mountain Half Marathon, which uses a route in the Teide National Park. During the half marathon the athletes will be protected from the worst of the sun by the shady pine forests of the park and be able to enjoy the stunning scenery offered from the high points of the route. Also during June are the Corpus Christi celebrations where locals decorate the streets with intricate patterns using local sand together with petals and heads of native flowers.rnrn The event is repeated in various towns across the island but one of the best places to enjoy it is in La Orotava, where the spectacle transforms the streets of the town.Later in the year Tenerife hosts the World Kite Surfing Championships. The Kite Surfing Championships take place in early August and are sure to provide some spectacular entertainment for those watching from the beaches at El Medano. A purpose-built arena will allow large crowds to watch the Champions Cup Volleyball competition, to be held at Siam Park during October. So Tenerife has all kinds of promotions planned for 2010 and all these events supplement the main attraction of the island, its great holiday resorts and fantastic beaches.

Mark reports that there is such a varied selection of flights to Tenerife there really is no excuse not to go and sample this island at some point. You can wait until prices are cheaper outside of the main holiday months, because Tenerife has a climate, according to Mark, that will reward at any time of year.
