There is something really refreshing about the start of a New Year. It is the perfect time to start again, and transform or change yourself in some way. Regardless of what you resolve to do, everything seems possible .

The important question then becomes "why do New Years resolutions go unfulfilled?" And it is typically not because they are too ambitious.

At the beginning of the year you are full of optimism, enthusiasm and hope. The thoughts and words you use to describe your resolutions reflect positive thoughts as you say, "I can do this". Then, as the weeks and months go by, your enthusiasm fades and you find yourself making excuses for not pursuing your goals, saying things like "I just can't find the time".

So what has really happened to make your resolutions unachievable? Your "self-talk" into defeat has, that's what. You simply talked yourself right out of keeping your resolutions. Self-talk is what you think and say about yourself in your head and in conversations with other people.

In order to fully manifest your resolutions, you must talk to yourself with positive attitude, drive and motivation to keep you moving forward, even in the face of adversity and delays.

So be clear about your resolutions. Having clarity around your resolution will give you greater focus, passion and self-confidence. This will encourage you to use positive self-talk to motivate you to achieve your goals.

Choosing not to make a resolution is better than making one you aren't willing to stand behind. With time and experience you will decide which goals are perfect for you and be able to fully support these goals.

Become familiar with the self-talk you are using currently. You actually talk to yourself all the time. Whether it takes a positive or a negative direction is up to you. Being alert to the type of "self-talk you use allows you to discover and counter-act any negative tones, and keep it in proper alignment with what you are doing to accomplish your goals.

Use self-talk that is positive by using words like "I am", "I can", and "I will". These words build confidence, motivate and reinforce your intentions. Stop using statements like "I can't", "I don't" and "I'll try". In order to succeed in reaching your goals you must always speak of yourself and what you are doing in a positive way, regardless of the circumstances.

And when things go bad, keep your self-talk moving in a positive direction. Set-backs are a normal part of life, so simply take it in your stride and use phrases like "I am strong enough to get through this and get back on track." What's important is to keep your self-talk moving in a positive direction and focus on what you can control, such as the way you feel, how you react and your attitude.

Talking to yourself is the most powerful force you have for creating the life you really want. Words have the potential to build or destroy your dreams, and they influence everything you experience. So use the power of positive self-talk to accomplish your goals in 2010.
