Here is a list of the most common and popular coffee brew types that you should be aware of before entering the coffee house next time.

Straight Shot is the actual espresso coffee that is not diluted with anything. You will not find many people in the US drinking straight shots of any kind as they prefer mixing it up with steamed milk in various amounts, creating some interesting variations.

Caffee Americano is very similar to the American brewed coffee and it is made with one or two shots of espresso mixed with 6-8 ounces of water. This coffee is very smooth and it is way hotter than your regular brewed coffee.
Espresso Macchiato is one shot espresso with a bit of foamed milk spooned over it. A variety of this called Espresso Cafe Panna is created by replacing the foamed milk with whipped cream.

Cappuccino is the drink that many people who are not sure what to order end up buying, which is a pity because although cappuccino is great, there are so many other good coffees to choose from as well. Cappuccino is espresso coffee mixed with a wet and fluffy foam. The foam in this particular coffee is quite in abundance, making the drink light and not so filling as other types.

Caffee Latte is very similar to cappuccino however it has less foam and has more steamed milk. If you should not drink too much coffee yet you do crave the taste, stick with cappuccino or latte as they are truly light coffees.
Caffee Mocha is made by adding a dash of chocolate syrup or some cocoa powder to the espresso shot and mixed. Then you add steamed milk along with a bit of whipped cream. This is quite a tasty flavored coffee and many people who want to depart from the traditional try it out.

Talking about flavored coffee, you have them in many other flavors including almond, hazelnut, chocolate, vanilla, Irish Creme, and several more. They are usually made by mixing espresso with various flavored syrups to which a bit of steamed milk is added and mixed well together.

If you love cold coffee in summer you can try any of these variants with cold milk and even ice cubes in them. This is how the various types of frappe and frappuccinos are made.
